That 4th goal was big for any chances of being top of the group. That's predicated on Colombia dropping points to CR or Paraguay, but one can dream.

Aside: Fox Sports Go is shockingly bad

If Paraguay somehow wins here, the group gets weird.

Someone should ask him why he looked like he was on the verge of tears the entire game then.

It was exactly like the Colombia game. The US got the early goal and sat back and countered to perfection.

Also, Cameron and especially Brooks were great last night. Best I've felt about a central back pairing in a while.

Dempsey was also great. Wood was better when they moved him up high. Zardes has no place in this lineup and was worse than usual.

I'm still an extremely dumb soccer fan, but Zardes just bothers me to watch. He always looks like he's playing panicked or something. I have zero confidence in him to make good decisions when he has possession of the ball.

He has a first touch worse than anyone I've seen at the National team level. So it becomes instantly more difficult to play possessive soccer through him. If you watch the Bolivia friendly, Zardes gets two assists by accident as the ball careens off him fortunately right to a teammate.

In his favor, he makes good runs and tracks back very well defensively and gets a lot of takeaways in the open field. He's just super unreliable when you play the ball to him.

So, Peru is up 2-0 on Ecuador already. If they win then Ecuador is practically(if not mathematically) done, and Peru only needs to bunker for a tie against Brazil to win the group. As a reminder, this is the group that the USA is paired with, so if the US finishes 2nd(most likely option), they face the winner of the group in the quarters.

Oh, they'll get Brazil for sure now.

I'm not predicting a win, but in terms of hyping up an apathetic public for this tournament, beating Brazil would do way more than beating Peru and losing in the semis to whoever. I'd actually prefer the hard route in this case. If we lose, it's business as usual. If we win, it could build some actual buzz.

Boca is doing work in Atlanta. Some interesting insight into what he's doing and the staggering investment Arthur Blank is putting into that club before they even take the field.

Look at this training ground. It's legit.

Donaldson for Jamaica is having an all-timer in terms of missed opportunities, it seems like every 5 minutes he blows a different chance.

there's been a crazy frenetic pace in that match

Goal of the day - Payet or Messi #2? I think I'll go with the open play strike (and game winner). Payet is the best player no one talks about.
