I just realized he was on his way to his father's funeral.

 

We had to get off the original plane and reboard another. I didn't get to my hotel until 4:30 in the morning. That must have made a rough weekend that much worse for Barry.

if i remember correctly he had been pretty adamant about not wanting a job like that, but i am sure there are ways to make that work if a team really wanted him.

I hadn't listened to EW in months either(more being burnt out on baseball than him), I recently listened to a couple of the preview eps and didn't hear anything unusual. My guess is he wouldn't have telegraphed that move though.

When looking at both frequency and quality, Jeff was probably the best baseball writer out there aside from Grant, and he works in a very different lane. This is a pretty huge loss.
