Jesus based on the layoffs announced so far, it looks like ESPN is stripping basically all their already meager hockey coverage except Barry Melrose (Scott Burnside, Pierre LeBrun, John Buccigross and Joe McDonald all let go so far). I understand why they do it but its crazy that a network advertised as the worldwide leader in sports can completely ignore one of the big 4 NA sports.

Other ESPN personalities are seeing their roles “significantly reduced,” a person with knowledge of the situation told The Hollywood Reporter. They include Baseball Tonight’s Karl Ravitch [sic], ESPN Radio’s Ryen Russillo and Hannah Storm, who has been a mainstay at ESPN for a decade and hosted various iterations of flagship SportsCenter,

If they don't cut Shefty then they aren't really serious about these cuts. He does nothing original and for what he makes you could hire 5 interns for probably 1/20 of what he costs to follow the necessary guys on twitter to break news on ESPN's twitter page, ESPNs bottom line, etc. Who cares if you are 10 seconds behind Rapoport.

Jim Bowden is gone

His time on ESPN reinforced the armchair GMs of the world that they were better than Jim Bowden.

They canned Mark Saxon, presumably for the hilarious "the Cards can challenge the Cubs" article a week ago.

Some people said that Jesse Rogers' emergence at ESPN gave him an edge over Saxon in job stability. That looks less true today than it did then.

I don't even watch ESPN unless I'm watching a game...are they still employing Stephen A. Smith?

So far. Cuts still going.

I think he's one of their highest paid on air employees.....

I feel bad for the individuals losing their jobs, but ESPN as an entity deserves this. I imagine they are going to have some not-so-pleasant negotiations with pay TV providers whenever their existing contacts expire.

Amazing...remember when they gave him his own show and it didn't even get better ratings than the AND1 basketball and bowling it was up against on their other networks?

I think you're thinking of Cowherd or Skip Bayless with that with their new shows when they left ESPN. But yeah they are all garbage and any network that pays them millions for their nonsense TV deserves to fail.
