He apparently said he expects to be fired, which makes me wonder if he isn't Costanza-ing this to get a job at Fox Sports or some s---.

apparently, kaplan was going off about how it was unethical for illinois to be in talks to hire a coach before firing their current one, and people called him on not having anything to say when the cubs did it with renteria.

Seems like Kaplan has had other media people countering him on twitter a fair amount recently.

Well, that was totally different, since the Cubs were going from a lazy Hispanic to a hard-nosed white guy, and here they're going from a hard-nosed white guy to a laid back black guy.

Matt Hasselbeck, the quarterback who spent the last three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, is expected to join ESPN this week, where he’ll replace Mike Ditka on the network’s marquee football show, Sunday Countdown, three sources told The Big Lead.

Ditka is not leaving ESPN – he’s just departing Countdown. Sources say he’ll have an unspecified emeritus-type NFL role at the network.

Mike & Mike's takes are usually tepid at best, but they got something right this week: had Serena Williams failed a drug test this week rather than Sharapova, the public and media reaction would have been far different

That is correct, but that's because it should be that way. It's more insulting to Serena's career than an illustration of hypocrisy to imply that those two be covered in a similar light.

To be clear, they weren't implying it was a race issue. Instead, they thought that a positive drug test would have resulted in reactions of "well THAT'S why she's so muscular" or "THAT'S why she's been so dominant", etc.

But it would and should be a bigger deal if the most dominant player in a sport tested positive vs. a good but decidedly not the best player.

Honest question. Serena Williams gets hardly any attention from the media relative to her dominance in her sport. Is that because nobody cares about tennis or because nobody cares about women's sports in general or something else?

As a person that could care less about tennis, I feel like I hear about Serena all the damn time.

Completely subjective, obviously.

I think it's a combination of the two with a 60/40 split in favor of nobody really caring about tennis outside of majors. Throw in that 3 of the 4 are on at weird times that few people can watch and I think you have your answer.

If she were a petit blond she'd be all over the place. She just not attractive in the same way as Martina Navratilova was when she dominated tennis.

Do you know who Martina Navratilova was?

This was Martina Navratilova at the age Serena is now:

Also, Martina's peak had a better ELO rating than Serena, along with Seles and Graf.

Navratilova, Graf and Seles each reigned over women’s tennis while competing against more elite players. When Navratilova won six majors in two years, she had to beat Evert in four of the finals. Graf and Seles competed with each other and Navratilova, as well as merely-greats like Arantxa Sánchez Vicario (four majors) and Jennifer Capriati (three majors).4 Amid so much greatness, Seles dominated in a stunning period from 1991 through April 1993, winning seven of eight majors she entered. Her meteoric rise, steeper than that of any other greats, was halted when she was stabbed by a Graf fan in 1993. Seles returned 28 months later but never reached No. 1 again.
