Hoyer was on the radio the other day and mentioned that he wasn't too concerned about Schwarber's outfield defense. He said something like if the series would've ended two games earlier, his defense wouldn't even be a topic, and I agree. It sounded pretty clear he'll be the primary left fielder next season. People saying he's Adam Dunn 2.0 in LF and needs to be moved to catcher immediately will be something we hear quite a bit this offseason, and it's going to get annoying.

I wonder how much of his struggles on those two plays were because of the angle of the ball in relation to the lights. Obviously, this is something he will also need to adjust to, but you do see guys struggle with balls because of the lights, and he did seem to make bad reads off the bat.

Nobody has talked about this play, and I was at the game so maybe it wasn't as bad as it looked, but I thought he also had a terrible read on that double by Peralta in Game 3 of the NLDS in which I felt a guy like Jackson would have had it.

 

That said, I think he is adequate on defense and am not worried about it at all.

He's a fan who thinks hendry did a great job and got a raw deal. Theo is the stepfather that will never be good enough. Also statistical analysis is dumb.

Since you're new to the site, I'll explain who I am and what I believe. I've been a Cub fan for over 60 years (hence the name). I enjoyed some of the years under Hendry (like most Cub Fans). Often I've "defended" Hendry when posters exaggerated "the cupboard was bare" mentality since Theo has taken over. I've pointed out that Theo traded many of the ML players left over from Hendry to restock the minor leagues. Many posters were so excited to have Theo that they refused to acknowledge anything that came from the previous FO. I've also pointed out that the situations are completely different - Hendry was a GM who was ordered to buy

a winning team by his bosses, while Theo has complete autonomy to put his plan into place. I don't hate Theo (as some posters believe) and the "Boy Genius" was taken from one of the posters who was fawning over the fact we got him. I wasn't happy with tanking 3 seasons, but this year made up for a big part of that. I'm not into sabermetrics as much as most of the NSBB posters and I think you need a combination of sabermetrics and good old fashioned scouting. I was happy to read the article the other day where Theo complimented the scouts for all of the foreign signings. I have confidence in Theo improving the team over the winter and hopefully getting us a WS win. Hope you have a better understanding of who I am and what I believe.

My way too early prediction(not necessarily what I'd do) is Span at 2/24 for CF, Zobrist at 4/68 for a few spots, Zimmermann at 6/102, and Soler/Johnson for Salazar, with 5 Cuban IFA's at 12 mill(plus penalties)

If you read the post carefully, it's not a rebuttal about cleaning up the mess. It's a rebuttal to the notion that "cupboard was bare" mentality that was being passed around in these discussions.
