Molina is wearing a customized splint to catch. He swaps that out for another protective device when he bats. Everyone, including Molina, assumed he would deal with more pain at the plate than behind it. The opposite turned out to be true.

“Catching,” Molina said when asked what is most difficult. “I was thinking it was going to be the hitting part. But hitting was feeling good. Some of the pitches, I had trouble with.

“It’s not pain. It’s about weakness. My hand is not strong enough to hold the ball like I used to, when I’m healthy.”

Molina, like Matheny, declined to offer a percentage on the health of his hand. “I don’t know,” he said. “We will have to wait.”

Sounds like a savvy vet trying to goad the Cubs into some bad sends.

Funny because that was the game the Cubs blew a 6-2 lead in the top of the 9th before winning on a Castro single in the 11th. Miggy did have 2 dongs in that game though.

I'm really surprised Berry isn't on the roster, although I guess I don't have a good candidate for whom to bench him either. I guess against Molina, you figure you won't be doing a lot of running anyway.

When would a "bandwagon" Cardinals fan even show up? I don't want to go into the numbers and facts about how they've basically been good forever, but they've basically been good forever.

If I may, there are plenty of bandwagon Cardinal fans. They're the ones who you see taking selfies during the games and are in the party rooms at the stadium eating and drinking and paying 0 attention to the game.

Of course the club loves them because, let's face it, they don't make near as much $$ w/o them.

I don't consider a fan a die hard because he happens to have enough money to go to the park often so he can be seen.

I like fans who still watch the games on TV when they're down 8-4 in the 9th.

My prediction:

-Lester gives up 2 in the first, everyone freaks out

-Cubs go quietly the first time around the order, then Fowler gets on to lead off the 4th, with 2 outs Rizzo breaks out of his slump with a long dong to tie up

-In the 7th, still tied at 2, Russell doubles home Starlin to make it 3-2 Cubs

-Lester goes 8, in the 9th Rondon strikes out the side for the W

Cubs win 3-2

If my prediction occurs word for word, someone must buy me a ticket to Game 3.

Are you saying you like fans who cheer for their team the right way?

I stopped reading here. The Cardinals haven't scored a run since clinching the division. They aren't coming out of the gate like that.

Yes well Lester has given up 50% of the Cubs starters runs allowed in their last 9 games, and 100% of those runs were scored in the 1st inning, so there.

yeah, that actually looks pretty good

Granted, most Chicago pizza is actually garbage pizza that those of us from Chicago have deluded ourselves into thinking is good, but it's at least less garbage pizza than St. Louis pizza. That [expletive] is just a war crime almost on par with Skyline chili.

Nah. I just like baseball fans. I start paying attention to the Blues when they're in the playoffs. I don't think that makes me much of a hockey fan.
