curious to hear what that guy's alternative playoff scenario would be.

The cardinals are presented with the MLB crown immediately upon completion of the regular season. (Note: it's a real [expletive] crown with jewels and stuff, not some [expletive], loser metaphor.) Remaining teams are allowed to play a for second place. The "winning team" is awarded a framed photo of Stan Musial receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Remaining teams get participation ribbons.

Seems like the prefect time to remember this

"I'm really disappointed in what the Cardinals did right there," Maddon said. "Absolutely. We did not hit their guy on purpose at all. It was an absolute mistake; there was no malicious intent on Dan Haren's part. None.

"So to become this vigilante group that all of a sudden wants to get their own pound of flesh, that's absolutely insane, ridiculous and wrong. We don't start stuff, but we will stop stuff."

Maddon went on to say that his team plans on stealing bases late in blowout games against the Cardinals if they refuse to hold runners on the bases.

Maddon cited a desire to score more runs and ensure important relievers like Hector Rondon can just get a rest and not have to worry about warming up.

"I never read this book the Cardinals have written on how to play baseball," Maddon said. "That particular book that you guys got was written right around the turn of the last century. Like 1900, when it took several singles to score runs as opposed to one big guy coming up to hit a home run.

"So that all has changed. You can take that book and you can read it yourself. 'Cause I don't give a crap about that book. I want everybody there to understand that. We don't start stuff, but we stop stuff."

I got crap on GRB for stating this, but I still feel like Maddon meant that the Cubs wouldn't be reverting to that beanball nonsense and that's what he meant by 'stop stuff'. Unfortunately, since the Cubs hit 3 batters the next day, the narrative became that he meant we're going to take it up to 11.

But whatever, we [expletive] finished it.

Cardinals fans can't even really complain about the playoff structure unless they want to abandon that dead-ass 2006 team that won 83 games and lucked their way into a championship

It's probably the worst baseball team to ever win the World Series. (There was a Twins team that won 83 and the championship too if I remember correctly?)

1987 Twins won 85 and the title, which seems freaking impossible to have done in the two-division era.

al michaels stated during the world series broadcast that year that the twins were out scored, out-hit in terms of average, out-homered and out-pitched in terms of ERA, yet made the world series and had home field advantage.

makes sense that we pegged the architect of this juggernaut to turn the franchise around

(i knew/know nothing of those twins teams prior to reading that post)

its rozner, but [expletive] it

For the third time in 17 days the Cubs threw a party, spraying one another with champagne and beer, and this time sharing it with the faithful who stuck around by the tens of thousands to watch the postgame victory lap.

After three years of hardly a simple regular-season victory to celebrate, the Cubs have been through three clinchings in such a short period of time that they appeared somewhat, well, subdued compared to the first two.

Maybe that's because they expected it.

"I didn't have any doubt we would win this series, and that's with total respect for St. Louis," Schwarber said. "They're the team to beat. They're the best every year. They're the standard.

"We just know what we know."

What the Cubs know is that they need 8 more victories to win the World Series, and don't doubt that they absolutely expect to win it all.

"It's something else to watch, Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler, Kyle Schwarber, Addison Russell, Javy Baez, all these kids doing what they do," said 10-year veteran Jon Lester. "I know how it was supposed to be, us veterans leading the way.

"It's not how it is. We just get on the kids' backs and they carry us."

Regardless of circumstance.

"I've never seen players, young or old, completely unaffected by a bad game or a bad at-bat," Lester said. "These guys, they have a bad at-bat and they're so competitive that they want to come back next at-bat and hit it farther than the last guy hit it.

"They compete with each other. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen. This is a different group of players. They're just different, man."

Yeah, they would have finished 5th in the East.

It's just starting to hit me that the Cardinals and all of their fans get to spend the entire off-season soaking in the fact that they lost to the CUBS in the playoffs.

Seriously. How awesome is that?

Cardinals straight to the World Series, and Adam Wainwright gets to take every AB for the American league team. Because the Cards DESERVED it.

This was probably mentioned on here already, but Waddle and Silvy used the term "dongs" yesterday. I was listening to part of the podcast thinking it was from today.
