If we really end up playing at 4 or whatever the hell on Monday, I will be [expletive] pissed.

Getting second priority to the Dodgers and Mets would be a [expletive] joke.

Gotta love that east coast bias.

Damn right. A little after 5 PM is a great time to start a game.

it's a terrible time in october for shadowy reasons

You're a smart guy David. You know this has zero to do with who's the better team/matchup, and everything to do with media markets.

And I understand that the Cubs in the playoffs trump that.

Even for ratings, it would be a bad decision, which is precisely why I'll shocked and disgusted.

It's the [expletive] Mets. If it were the Yankees, I'd agree. They're like a rich man's version of the White Sox.

The fact that it's both those markets is the only reason it's even close.

The White Sox are a terrible comparison. The Mets are huge here. They play second fiddle to an absurdly successful Yankees team but they are by no means an afterthought. They basically get twice as many viewers than Cubs games, due to the size of the market. The Cubs are a great story and Cubs/Cardinals is big but Mets/Dodgers is enormous.

Do you have any sort of source for this? Because I can't find [expletive].

The cleanest info I found is from last year. Obviously, given the Cubs year last year, it's not exactly ideal numbers for comparison.

The Cubs managed to up their game this year and start netting over 100k per game. The Mets, meanwhile, kicked off the year rivaling the Yankees:

http://www.amazinavenue.com/2015/4/23/8485623/mets-yankees-tv-ratings-sny-yes

For the first time since the birth of SNY in 2005, the Mets' TV ratings are within striking distance of the Yankees'.

Television viewership for Mets games this year is up 47% from last year, while on YES, the Yankees' TV ratings are down 21%. The Yankees are still drawing more viewers—267,000 per game compared to 253,339 for the Mets—but the gap has never been this close in the nine-plus years that Mets games have been on SNY.

I googled the ratings and it said ~260,000 households for Mets this year, just below Yankees at 275ish.

espn article the other day posted cubs at 112,000 households

Jesus. That's impressive for what was such a shitty team for years.

I'm also shocked the gap is that big when both teams are good, population size aside. I'd have to think a good Cubs team is still a bigger national draw (be it baseball fans in general and Cubs fans) than the Mets, but given how far off my perception is of them locally (and the fact that they got that kind of viewership even while being shitty), nothing would surprise me.

The Cubs actually have a higher local ratings, but the population difference is way too enormous to overcome.

A Cubs world series probably out rates a Mets world series but this is only a division series and the ratings will depend heavily on local market, not average joes.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of draw the Dodgers end up. Will everyone who can't see them in the regular season tune in or will that inability to follow the team on a daily basis hurt them? I'm guessing it'll be closer to the former.

Then again, a lot of markets seem to take the DS for granted, ticket-wise and TV wise.

The upside for the game times for me is that this will likely be the first Cubs team my son remembers, and most prime time games go way past his bedtime. This is the first post season I get to share with him, and I'm very excited about him getting to stay awake for the games.

We'll have to wait until that time comes, but I bet you anything Cubs/Cards would DEMOLISH Mets/Dodgers in ratings.

YOU GUYS I HAVE TICKETS FOR GAME 4

Well you are going to have to get a refund as the Cubs should end the Cardinals season Monday

Posted
I was planning on going to Game 3, but a 4:00 start will make it impossible without using vacation days which I need for NLCS/World Series.

You're going to be upset that you missed Jake's closeout perfect game.
