With 5.5 gb of Pittsburgh and Arrieta starting the 1-game playoff, isn't it better to just skip this start?

Little bit of a tail spin here. Get your heads on right and don't make it 10 straight Cubs. I don't think I can take it.

NO.

There's no point. He's in a groove right now, making him rest for 10 days is silly. And if you suggest moving him to tomorrow then he isn't lined up to start the Wild Card game. Start him but limit to 100 pitches this start and next - high leverage or not.

I mean, there's some point. I never want to straight up throw a game, but it's in our best interest that A. The Pirates don't find someway to figure out jake (which I know is a stupid phrase, but I think you get the general idea) and B. The Pirates push the cardinals and make whoever we play next Wednesday have high stress games all the way down the stretch (and making pitching choices to reflect that).

Let him take his full routine, and pull him after three.

Hey guys. You may remember me from this past off season. I'll be at tonight's game and tomorrow night's game. Anybody here grabbing a beer before the game?

There's no point.

Sure there is. I'd either skip him or limit him to like 3 innings tonight if they don't want him to have a long layoff. Now that we're not going to catch the Pirates, there's really no point for their hitters to get 3-4 more looks at him.

Meh. They've seen him what 5 times this year? I'd rather keep him on a consistent workload of at least 80-90 pitches

Limit him to around 90 pitches and dumb down how he attacks them. Figure out how he wants to go after them in the WC game and don't do much of that tonight.

I can't imagine why anyone would sit Arrieta. No way limiting the risk of injury outweighs the potential impact of screwing with Arrieta's routine. His routine has worked pretty well these past two months.

For me the biggest part is that the best case scenario the rest of the year for us is that St. Louis and Pittsburgh play Game 163. Throwing the best pitcher in the National League against Pittsburgh doesn't help that cause.

What the [expletive] are the stupid Pirates going to figure out about him in this start that they couldn't in the others? They're just dumb slabs of meat before him.

I'm sympathetic to the idea that it's in the Cubs best interest for Arrieta not to pitch today, but the alternatives are worse. You don't want him to have a huge layoff or two week-long layoffs, and there's not enough days left to avoid that if you skip him today.
