Oh well. At least we know the Cubs can beat the Cardinals.

Would love another shot at them in the playoffs. This team doesn't lay down against good teams.

[expletive]..I think we jsut tied this [expletive] up we would have ended up winning it.. That bases loaded with no outs is going to piss me off until tomarrow

my biggest lament is how close we were to an epic soler walkoff dong that would have shifted the rotation of the earth and destroyed a rooftop building at the same time

Well this is now the worst loss of the season :(

Please win today, Dodgers.

holy [expletive] are you serious?

this dude is amazing

he never ceases to amaze me by somehow managing to shock me with the ridiculousness of the things he says

and it's all genuine

I guess it depends on how you define "worst." Was it not the most frustating, at least?

Between the bad send in the 8th and Berry getting thrown out by a cold catcher for the first time in 26 attempts in the 9th, the Cardinals had absolutely no business winning this game. We should be 4 back. And if you want to take it farther and count those other 3 BS games, we should be no more than 1 back. The 2nd game of that DH sweep in July was the only game you can argue we "stole" from them, I guess. They've now stolen four.

How many [expletive] wins is that for them against us? 3? 4? This division should be ours.

Five, I think.

The 5-0 first inning game.

The game Strop blew in the 8th.

The Peralta HR game.

The other game Strop blew in the 8th.

And now this one.

And the Cubs have NO fluky [expletive] wins against the Cardinals this year in... 18 games? Un [expletive] real.

Oh it is coming this year. When it does it will be amazing.

The Peralta HR game is hands down the worst loss of the year, imo. But I wouldn't call it fluky.

Strop giving up a HR to Greg [expletive] Garcia was horsecrap, though.

Cmon man, it's at least "close." I think only the Peralta game and the Goldschmidt game have left me more upset.

Walkoff home runs are fluky by definition. A relatively rare event for any given player in the perfect situation. Even 30 HR hitters have a 5% HR rate.

Same here. We got into too big of a hole earlier in the season. We've been busting our asses, trying to gain ground. Valiant effort, but too short. You piece of [expletive] rednecks can have the division this year. But that's it. We are coming for that [expletive] next season and you aren't getting it back. And we are going to stomp your asses in the playoffs. Prepare to have dongs rained upon you.

Man, I loved today. I get to watch so few of the games, and I love how invested I was in this, how even after the first inning I knew at the very least they were going to be in it. Everything was just so amped up and intense and it meant something; it [expletive] felt like playoff baseball. It's awesome to be watching REAL [expletive] BASEBALL again.

how can you not call a loss with a lead and 2 outs in the 9th fluky?

Recency bias, lol. I was more upset about the last loss in St. Louis, and probably a half dozen more than that.

Plus the way things are going right now, we feel like the Cubs should win every game, and that enhances the disappointment.

The second I was convinced it was gone seemed to take so long. Just a momentary respite from the perpetual pain they're going to face going forward.

yeah. it was cool.

sucks that that stuff went against us in the end but you can't really expect to win a whole lot of games falling down 4-0 almost immediately to a pitcher like martinez

I'm actually kind of amazed you can even tell that.

that's because you're a lunatic who watches tons of baseball and still doesn't understand how it works

I understand that when we had the bases loaded with 0 outs in the 8th down one, the likelihood of us winning was more than the likelihood of the Cardinals winning.

I understand that when a guy is 25 for 25 in SB in his career, it's pretty damn unlikely he's going to get thrown out.

And I even understand that in baseball, despite all of the likelihoods in the world, nothing is guaranteed. Were there A LOT of good signs for the Cubs in this game? Yes. Are the Cubs still a good team? Yes. Was this an extremely tough loss to swallow? Yes.
