my favorite part of that thread was seeing redflash bitching about how the 2008 cubs were just falling into the "cub tradition" of playing just above mediocrity to tease fans

The Pirates have overtaken the Royals, and now the Cubs are a game away from having the third best record in MLB, while also being third in their division. I'm willing to bet that would be a first in the 6-division format.

Had to go look this up - 2001 is the only time that even the top two records came out of the same division. That was the year the A's finished 14 games back with a record of 102-60.

 

2001, 2007, and 2009* are the only times in the WC era that the top three records even came out of the same league.

Everytime I see the daily lineup, I am happy. No more black holes in the lineup other than when Ross plays. And Ross games are completely expected before-hand and as minimal as possible given the circumstances. Far cry from the Castro @ cleanup, Olt, Szczur, Castillo, Alcantara lineup that could only muster 1 run in Colorado in early April.

not sure when that was but i gotta admit i was tuned pretty well out (relatively speaking) on the cubs and nsbb for the last 2-3 years of hendry

 

all i remember about yeti is a wacky rant about some random stranger shooting at his targets in his big yard

In 2008 I bought a batch of tickets from the Phillies for the CUBS series in April there. Took CT, CubmanPi, Yeti, and others to the games. Zambrano lost on Friday, Lilly lost on Saturday, and we finally pulled one out in the 10th inning on Sunday when Jason Marquis faced Jamie Moyer. I still blame CT for the CUBS poor showing. Pictures were posted in this forum.

 

I still get an email every year in the early spring from the Phillies letting me know that tickets are on sale and inviting me to buy some. Like a true CUBS fan, I can say.... wait 'til next year !!!

I used to have my location as "Pirate Country" (I graduated and work for ECU, the "Pirates"). Not that anyone should have been any the wiser, but Fred messaged me and asked if I wanted to go to the Cubs game in Pittsburgh when he was in town. It was one of the nicest things any "stranger" (as in never actually officially met) ever did and I still appreciate it to this day.
