It's always a pleasant surprise to wake up and find out the Cubs have a game on a day you thought they were off.

Even better when this stud is taking the hill. Tonight, he becomes the major's first 19 game winner.

His opposition, Adam Morgan is the newest addition to the "I've never heard of this guy," ledger.

Cubs unleash the dongs tonight. Rizzo, Bryant, and Arrieta (!) go deep. Cubs win 10-1.

EDIT: Never forget this day.

I am about 40 minutes outside of Philly, and it has been raining all day. one of those long overcast gray days where it never clears up.

When would this game possibly be made up if it gets rained out? The Cubs already have a doubleheader on Tuesday, so would they really be asked to play another one over the weekend?

Think there's a decent chance that one game is completely inconsequential in the end and it might not get played at all.

Am I crazy or haven't they gone with "it'll get played at the end if it's meaningful" before?

You are crazy but I believe that has also happened.

Cubs do have an off day Monday, they probably go day/night on Friday.

That's a great question. I'm assuming they would hold it off until the end of the regular season to see if its needed.

Assuming the Cardinals won the Central, this would only be a major scheduling issue if the Cubs finished 0.5 games behind the Pirates and clinched the season series. There's a small chance it would matter if the Cubs finished 0.5 games ahead of the Pirates but the Pirates won the season series, but that would involve the Cubs making up 3.5 games in 23 games, despite losing 5 of 7 to the Pirates. That would mean the Cubs would have to outplay Pittsburgh by 6.5 games over 16 games. So we're talking Cubs going 14-2 and the Pirates going 8-9 or something.

So if the unlikely scenario occurred the Cubs would be stuck playing that Philly game on Monday, probably starting some guy like Dan Haren and hoping for the best, and then the WC game on Wednesday.

Phillies have FINALLY fired Amaro as GM. The only thing more overdue now is Matt Williams getting fired in DC.

I realize that the Nationals have been hit hard with injuries this year, but the last week or so has really exposed Williams for the terrible manager he is. I would be shocked if he isn't fired soon after the season ends.

Also, I've been a little out of the loop, have they mentioned who might be starting that double header on Tuesday?

They could theoretically line up Lester and Arrieta to go in the DH, but then they will almost certainly need a spot starter next Saturday against St. Louis.

He's been exposed for a lot longer than the last week.

San Juan isn't that close to Philly.

Hah, yeah, I haven't lived in Puerto Rico since 2008, Too lazy to update my profile
