So on Saturday night and again tonight I paused the game to put my daughter to bed and then watched what I missed. On Saturday I paused during the commercial break just before the inning lester gave up 3 runs to lose it. Tonight I paused it during the commercial break as Russell came into the game.

In both instances I did a light fast forward and as i saw the inning crumbling away ended up skipping to live TV in disgust.

Guess I should be happy i didn't have to watch any of those 9 runs score live

I've been the opposite. The first two pitches I saw Saturday were the two wild pitches/passed balls. Tonight I turned on the radio just before Grimm's first HR.

I'd really like to see 2-3 wins in a row again.

Its coming sooner than later. Cubs are just in a bad stretch. Every team except the Cardinals and Pirates goes through them. it was around this time in 2008 when the Cubs had a 6 game losing streak.

Whoopty freaking do !!

It's just by turns strange and infuriating that instead of a borderline meaningless mini slump, this one has basically destroyed our chances at the division and damaged the chances of even a home wild card game.

Our chances at the division were destroyed when the Cardinals decided to win 110 games

I wish we could go from playing amazing ball to playing .500 instead of winning 21 out of 25 and then promptly losing 5 out of 7.

Do better tomorrow, Cubs.

I get that if its successful you are a single away from tying it but if it's not you allow a still fresh Chapman to mow through the bottom of the Cubs order in the 9th

So the extra 1-4 pitches Starlin would have made Chapman throw would tire him out?

The main point was that I'd rather let my guys bat with the tying run on base

Baserunners were 8 for 8 stealing on Chapman prior to that attempt. Hitters are 5 for 195 getting an XBH with a .196 average. SB + 1B is a much higher percentage play than 2B or 1B + 1B

Once again TT owns. It may make me feel baseball dumb but at least I know people like you are here to set me straight.

What? Since the west coast trip, we've lost 5 out of 7.

Yes but the first game of the west coast trip is included in the 21 of 25. Since then we've lost 5 games and won 1

Oh, I'm an idiot.

(As I'm sure many would agree).

There's something cathartic about not having to worry about Pittsburgh and St. Louis winning every single damn day. Just hold off the Giants and Nats and Jake will take the wild card game for us.

Even though we won't benefit as much since the NL WC game is Wednesday, it would still be nice for the Pirates and Cards to battle for the division down to the last day.

At least the WC magic # went down to 27 last night. Cubs will finish with 89-93 wins, Jake will beat the Pirates 1-0. Cubs will beat the Cardinals in 5, Dodgers in 6 and Blue Jays in 5. All is good.
