Hey, it drove me nuts when Cubs fans here would lose their [expletive] over Valverde, too. It's just odd how so many fans want the players to basically be unemotional monks out there.

i mean it's frustrating watching other people celebrate while you're miserable

when i'm at a game and there are opposing fans around me and something bad happens and those people jump up and start clapping and cheering? urge to kill rising

doesn't mean i think they shouldn't be cheering or something, though

Why can't you have better friends? Or at least tell them the Cubs are 11-0 against the Mets and Giants, and have a winning record vs. the Pirates and Nationals.

I do. And then they just say "hurr hurr 1908, Bartman, black cats"

Well with the Cardinals fans, just make an Oscar Taveras joke.

Yeah, I don't think it's unreasonable that it bothers people, they are celebrating something you didn't want to happen, after all. It's the moral high ground nonsense ("class") that's dumb.

I hate people who want athletes to be boring.

i was looking at WSI for some misery porn and one guy was bitching about strop while bitching even more about the white sox trying to do fun things

lol at the one poster who goes on and on about Samardzija always being a #4-5 because he's never won 10 games and mentioned it was odd he might do it this year when he's actually struggled. You can see him ALMOST realize that it's not a good stat, but nope, can't quite get there.

Ah, the DH, gotta love it. Interleague play in AL parks just kind of teases me and makes it even more annoying when we go back to normal games without the DH. Get with the times already, NL.

Bruce Miles @BruceMiles2112

Soler has tight right calf. He will DH. Schwarber to LF. Denorfia to right. Order the same as early lineup. #Cubs

Fun with numbers:

Cubs are on pace for 94-68, which would be the 11th-most wins in franchise history and third-most since WWII ended.

Cubs just need to go .500 the rest of the way to win 90 games

Magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 44

I wouldn't mind seeing Schwarber in LF and Denorfia in RF a lot more down the stretch, without the DH.

Is Soler's defense really THAT bad? There's a .121 difference in OPS between them in the second half.

No, but I really don't care what a player has done "in the second half."

I mean, I know you hate Soler. But, Denorfia sucks too. There is hardly a difference between the two. And Soler brings with him a lot more upside.

Time has no meaning for one such as Kyle.

Can't wait to get that 35 year old journeyman Chris Denorfia more at bats

But real talk, this season more than any other has made me want to go with the DH, partly because of Schwarber, partly because of Already Hits Like A Pitcher Blanket David Ross. In the AL you can suffer a specialized defensive player, the NL, not so much

If only the Cubs could have somehow known that they were not going to be playing with a DH when they signed a specialized defensive player
