I got a handful of texts tonight. Two from Sox fans, one from a Cards fan, one from a Pirates fan. All of them saying "how we're lucky", "we're just beating bad teams", and "Strop is an [expletive]."

Why can't they just let us be happy?

Why can't you have better friends? Or at least tell them the Cubs are 11-0 against the Mets and Giants, and have a winning record vs. the Pirates and Nationals.

Or if they don't know anything about semi-advanced stats, congratulate them that Chris Sale and Dan Haren are pretty much sporting the same ERA.

Difference is Sale leads the AL in FIP at 2.51 while Harens FIP is 4.70 (6.01 with the Cubs). It would be difficult to find 2 starters on more opposite ends of the unlucky/lucky spectrum

Is "beating bad teams" less acceptable than getting swept by them? Because the Pirates were swept by the Brewers not long ago.

No wonder he's always trying to get everyone to hug it out here. Poor abused DiamondMind.

It's kind of true though - I can't talk sports with 99% of the people I hang out with or work with. They just piss me off.

Here's an example of a typical tweet I get, this one in reference to Strop yesterday:

@awake283 I guess you cant expect a team to act like they've been there before when they haven't. They will learn to win with class someday

Things like this are why I've more or less quit using social media like Twitter, Facebook, etc.

NSBB, on the other hand, is always high brow and informative.

I remember quite vividly the CUBS winning 14 out of 15 back in '67. It started on 20 June in Pittsburgh. The CUBS were in 5th place, 5.5 games behind the Cardinals. The CUBS won 2 games in Pittsburgh to finish a road trip, then they came home for a 12 game home stand against Houston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh & Cincinnati. The CUBS swept 4 from Houston, split Philadelphia 1-1, swept 3 from Pittsburgh, then swept 3 from Cincinnati. After finishing 11-1 on the home stand, the CUBS found themselves, on 02 July, tied with the Cardinals for first place !! The CUBS hit the road after that and won their first game in Atlanta then proceeded to lose 7 in a row, and bound for oblivion. They finished in 3rd place, 14 games behind the Cardinals.

Bet y'all can't guess which game I attended during that home stand !!

Yea, but we're all cheering for the same team here, and that helps.

I hate people who want athletes to be boring.

I know right!

Hey, it drove me nuts when Cubs fans here would lose their [expletive] over Valverde, too. It's just odd how so many fans want the players to basically be unemotional monks out there.
