Typically, when people are being falsely accused, they come out immediately saying so. Kane has been quiet for a reason.

If Kane is exonerated, you guts think he gets a hero's welcome if he plays again for the Hawks?

no way.

The only possible way is if it somehow comes out that this was a blatant money grab and the DA actually presses charges the other way. But if he does return he'll have a few douchebags MRA types that will stand and cheer but most people will be standoffish for a long time.

what?

Marshawn Lynch, for example...although he didn't come out with a statement, the Seahawks sure did almost immediately last year, saying that the woman that accused him of assault last year was "bogus". Turns out she was, and she was charged.

It's a different scenario...not rape or sexual in nature, but my point simply is that if Kane knew this accusation was completely BS, him, or his lawyer, or someone would be coming out and loudly saying so.

You underestimate meatball fans. I bet he would get a standing O.

If he somehow beats the charges, he's getting an ovation as long as he wears the Hawks sweater. Especially if he comes out for the opening ceremony.

Maybe by a handful of horrible people, but they will be the exception. I also don't know what format you are talking about for a standing ovation. They will do whatever they can to not introduce guys by name, or have him on the first shift during the anthem. His portion of highlights in any video will be much less prominent. They will hide him. There will not be an opportunity for idiots to give him a standing O.

People don't typically stay quiet because, for example, their lawyer advised them to?

Typically somebody speaks up on behalf of the famous accusee

Even before formal charges?

Those who say that Kane will never recover are kidding themselves. He is not that marketable an athlete prior to this. This could go away pretty quickly. Like starlin Castros. I think Jamies Winston is even getting close to not having his rape allegation among the first few things people think about him and he is a much more visible athlete than Kane.

I'm sure we will find out soon that this is going. Away. And by December it will be nearly forgotten by most people.

Look at a list of athletes that have been accused of sexual assault. It's long and distinguished. You will be surprised that you hardly remember many of the incidents. Like Colin kappernick got through his in a matter of days.

Yeah, but we'll definitely remember the time Patrick Kane raped that woman.

Probably as much as kobes wife remembers how he choked and raped a woman in a Denver hotel.

The Kobe thing never went away. Pick pretty much any Kobe article at random that has a comments section and it'll have crappy jokes and digs about that.

The Kobe thing absolutely went away are you crazy.

In terms of public perception? Of course it didn't. Outside of Lakers fans and sycophant sports journalists it's one of the main reasons he's one of the most despised and mocked players around.

Hell, everyone still makes fun of Brett Favre for being an idiot with his dick pics, but I'll bet you think they forgot about that. And that QB in Pittsburgh...nobody EVER talks about him. Everyone sure forgot about Clemens banging an underaged country music singer. How many other major athlete sex scandals do you think are "forgotten?"

Ha. People care more about Clemens doing roids than the underage girl. The packers are having Bret Favre night to a 50 million person audience on thanksgiving this year. The only arguments people have about Kobe are if he's better than lebron or mj. There is a difference between "forgetting" and completely expunging from the annuls of time, but you must choose to consider things with a degree of nuance.

I am; these are things people remember and mock and ridicule and always will. When these guys die a ton of the commentary/discussion is going to be about their scandals; it's going to follow them forever. Plus this is a different environment than those events, and Kobe 12 years ago; there's much more of a push and outcry for these sorts of things to not just be swept under the rug or forgiven.
