I remember back in Junior High, there was an error card of a player whose birth year was listed as 1981. This was around 1990, and the thought of a pro-athlete younger than me was ludicrous. Now I'm running out of players younger than myself. I know it sounds random and OT, but it came to mind, since I consider Utley to be older than dirt, yet he's 2 years younger than I.

This hit home for me when I had to explain to my son that I am too old to be on the Cubs. I also had to explain that David Ross looks a lot older than he is.

I don't understand how you can put your entire life into playing baseball and not want to accept a trade to a playoff team. [expletive] pathetic.

Seriously, you don't have to uproot your family for the final six weeks and hypothetical playoffs. I'm not even sure I want him but it's kind of weird.

He's won a World Series and he's comfortable in Philly

That's why I was asking about the retirement thing; if he's planning on retiring after this season I can see why he'd nix any trade. It's rare these days that someone gets to spend their entire career with one team and maybe he really wants that. Edited by Sammy Sofa

That would make sense at least.

Why are you even playing the game then if you aren't going to want to play on a playoff team? You don't have to "uproot your entire family" to play 2 months in Chicago either, so I don't understand Chase's logic here. If he wants to retire a Philly, just retire now. All he's doing is stealing development time from Galvis/Hernandez. Silly. Am I being a meatball about this?

From most reports, he wants to play next year actually. He's got a ring-it's not how I'd go about things, but if he's stuck on ONLY wanting to go to California right now and even then, ONLY if he's guaranteed playing time, I can understand his viewpoint. He knows he's going to start minimum 4 times a week where he knows he's comfortable currently. If he's looking for a decent deal next year, he may value comfortability as his best shot at accomplishing that. Since he's got a ring, he evidently isn't incensed by the need to ring chase at this stage of his career.

I'd look at things differently, but I guess I see where he's coming from.

You kind of are.

Professional athletes play the games they play because they are highly compensated to play them. There is a competitive angle to it all but a guy with a ring isn't going to be all that excited to go to a team that has a chance of making the wild card game. This is his job. Don't think of it as a never ending search for postseason glory. It's a job.

The biggest.

Maybe Chase wants the final tour to be with the Phillies so other teams can give him a rocking chair, etc... on his final trips through town.

So annoying if this is the case.

There's no kind of about it.

most of the time i'd consider this a non-report, but coming from rosenthal, i think him saying things could happen today actually means something

With Pence on the DL

DL = DiamondMind's Lap

Yeah, that one will be tough to top for at least today. Nice work.

ETA: Hahahahahahahhaha

I'm sure it's not that tough to top diamondmind's lap.
