Was just discussing this with my friend last weekend when we were at Wrigley. Glad the Cubs are doing this. It's not optimal, but Schwarber has become our best option, and the only move then is to get him here even if we'd prefer he work on his catching in a lower-pressure environment.

I'll give you three guesses, Jesse.

So does this mean we are back to having 3 catchers?

No I'm guessing this means that either Teagarden is going back down or Ross' concussion is worse than what we expected.

Looks like Montero is expected to be out longer than 15 days.

Schwarber is going to have to catch, forget LF or any other position for a while.

Well, and then there is that tweet from Muskat.

Hmmm...Have to think they are bringing him up to play and not sit around and watch Teagarden.

Schwarber is being called up, but not to be the everyday catcher. Cubs will carry three catchers and KS will get some time behind plate.

Source says Cubs will employ 3 catchers again: Schwarber, David Ross and Taylor Teagarden. Schwarber not necessarily the everyday guy

And of course, the Cubs have to couple a decidedly logical move with a ridiculous one.

SSR is probably right about the defensive replacement thing.

Keeping Teagarden around allows them to use Schwarber in one way shape or form, every day. He can pinch hit. He can play some LF. He can start some games at C.

If it was just he and Ross then he would have to be on the bench and ready whenever Ross started. Plus Ross probably has some brainial hangover going on.

I gots no problem with it.
