if you're gonna be a bumslaying team at least slay the bums you come across

this team is solidly above average and will come back to form as some of the players get out of slumps, but god they're hard to like right now

I know this team has been able to shake off tough losses this season, but I find it hard to believe that they would have lost both of these games if they close out Wednesday's game.

something really needs to be done about this offense

I knew the offense would struggle at times this year with so many young hitters but I really did t expect it to struggle this badly for this long. A little disappointing.

Baseball players don't think like fans. We'd still be facing Sale today had we won Wednesday, too.

Imagine how much better our record would be if we beat bad teams and our closers didn't throw meatballs against power hitters in close games.

Seriously, this is mind-boggling.

On the other hand, we get to watch Rizzo and Bryant hit dongs on Monday.

LF and CF are the only positions that we could possibly upgrade. Everywhere else, all we can do is wait for them to get better. I don't see them moving Fowler, and I'm not sure what kind of impact bat we could acquire to play left. Maybe we could stick Schwarber out there towards the end of the year, but besides that, I'm not sure there's much we can do about our offense.

Lester hasn't won in 2 months, the Cubs haven't scored in 18 innings and they're in the playoffs no matter what if the season ended at the AS break. Sounds about right. Baseball is ridiculous and sometimes very dumb. Edited by Castro's trade value

This team makes me angry. Like, seriously angry. This makes 10 straight losses I've seen at Wrigley

tbh at this point i'm rooting for the Cubs to go 27 straight innings with no runs against the majestically bad White SOx

I doubt that's going to happen. But that's only because I don't think tomorrow's games going to happen. And it's for the better. We really need that break. And by we, I mean we, not them.

That would suck because it's a complete waste of an Arrieta start with the break coming up. That, and I don't want them to have to reschedule yet another game.

I think the only thing we could do to fix the roster is call up Baez and Shwarber as soon as possible and hope for the best. The offense is bad due to underperformance, not bad roster construction. Fowler's OPS should be 100 points higher, Castro shouldn't be a complete black hole in the lineup, and we were hoping for at least an .800 OPS from Soler. Montero could be a tick better, too.

There's little to do beyond practicing patience and good coaching. On that point - someone seriously needs to help Castro with his swing. But at least he seems more patient this year. Until he reaches two strikes, then he completely freaks out.

I think I know what Lester ranted as he walked off the mound. "Can you mother [expletive] score and a [expletive] run when I pitch?

I hope so.
