Crap like that doesn't happen if you don't fall behind the pitcher 2-0.

 

or if you just catch playable fly balls

Again, that run only happens because Arrieta throws 2 balls to deGrom. Cubs pitchers have been doing that all year

 

you know what's a lot easier than not throwing 2 straight balls now and then?

I agree that it should've been caught but we still shouldn't be giving up 380 foot fly balls to pitchers.

 

if he had just grooved him a pitch on the first pitch to make absolutely sure he didn't fall behind 2-0, he wouldn't have given up the deep fly ball that he gave up because he was behind 2-0 and had to groove him a pitch

 

that about right?

Cubs haven't scored many runs the past 9 games, but they are going against some pretty great pitching staffs. Dodgers, Cards and Mets are 3 of the top 4 in ERA. Bats should heat up soon.
