With Wada to tbe DL official and Turner's set back, we're going to need one. Can we give Roache another shot? Sure, why not.

But then again, we have two veteran starting pitchers being used as mop ups in the bullpen. And seeing as our pen has seemingly taken shape with Rodon, Stropp, Grimm, Motte, Ramirez returning, and Soriano at some point, there roll there is going to become less before it becomes larger.

Or here's an alternative; Justin Grimm. He hasn't started in some years, so I don't know how long it would take to stretch him out. But depending on how long Wada will be out and whether or not there are any viable trade options, would it be worthwhile?

Grimm has an arm injury this year and hasn't thrown 50+ pitches at once since 2013. Even if it were a good idea (nope), it'd take a long while to stretch him out.

On top of what TT said, Grimm is already the best reliever on this team.

I'm not arguing TT's point at all. But beyond that, a reliable 4-5 starter is more valuable than a very good reliever in what is shaping up to be a deep, strong bullpen.

Turner is not the answer. Neither is Roach, or Wada. The answer is outside the organization. It's up to the Cubs FO's better judgment if it's worth it to go find that answer. I'd be hesitant to trade too much just for a one game playoff against Garrit Cole.

Well, then good, because that's not how trades work.

Im pretty much on with this statement... its not worth trading out of desperation to fight for a wildcard vs. the Pirates who are just a better team and have one of the best pitchers in the entire game in a 1 game playoff... sorry no thanks...

Why dont they give Underwood(guess he got hurt) Edwards a shot to start? I mean they couldnt be worse than Roach?

Wasn't the original plan for Edwards to be in the bullpen for a few months and then ramp up to a starter's workload in order to limit his innings? I never fully believed it when they said it in spring training, but given our need for a fifth starter I assume that idea is completely gone now.

It's like you have absolutely no idea how the playoffs actually work.

its like even if we made it going Lester Vs. Cole is just a loss.

Yeah, I think they may have given up on him as a starter and since he's been in the bullpen all year even if they switched gears now it would take a while to get him stretched out anyways.

The "don't invest anything if there is the slightest adversity" meme has poisoned a portion of the fan base.

It is pretty ridiculous; "welp, they're not going to just steamroll the division and the playoffs...might as well not try to upgrade at all!"

Probably should forward this to Theo before he makes a fatal move

It's so dumb, they have played themselves to a spot where they have a legit spot to make the playoffs. I'd be disappointed if they at least didn't go a get a Lohse/De La Rosa type addition to the 5th spot.

Not to mention if the Cubs got to pick their starter for a one game playoff it would almost surely be Arrieta.

Someone should go back in time and warn the 2014 Giants about how risky a one-game playoff against the Pirates is.

i will say, there's not much out there for rentals i'd give up McKinney or Schwarbs for

i do however really wish we could have gotten Zobrist at some point in the last 4 months
