Plan, I find it very interesting.

One that I'll add for today just because I've seen it cited enough that I know it was their highwater mark.

1977: 47-22. 70th game 0-5 loss to the Expos

8.5 game lead on division.

Thanks, terrible couple months to end that season a 28.5 game flip from lead to games out by the end of the season.

kind of funny how everybody talks about the 69 collapse so much and you don't hear a peep about that, relatively speaking

Or how the 1970 Cubs were within a half game of first as late as Sept 4th (Game 137), within a game of first as late as September 15th (game 146) and within 1.5 games as late as September 19th (Game 151).

Then they lost 7 of 9 to fall 6 games out before winning their last 2 meaningless games.

To compare...in 1969 after 137 games, the Cubs were up 5 games, after game 146 they were down 2.5 games, after game 151 they were 4 games out.

#Cubs enter today having grounded into the fewest double plays in the majors (40). Tigers are tops with 71

Imagine if we didn't have Starlin

Didn't Sutter get hurt though? He was insane that year, just absolutely filthy, then he got hurt and they tanked.

Doesn't it seem fitting that the Cubs won the first 2 games in games that the matchups were largely not in their favor and they'll probably lose tonight's game that when you look at the matchup you say "the Cubs have a pretty good chance to win that one." That's baseball for ya! However, if the Cubs can manage to pull off a 4 game sweep - that would be HUGE.

Every time Bryant hits a dong this is the gif I think of. I never post it because my tablet sucks. But if I could - this would be there.

Well, the '69 team was filled with awesome players and the '77 team was filled with a bunch of bums who should have lost even more than they did.

Big storms in Iowa now heading this way..Hopefully this gets played

Yeah unless it turns South, we're gonna get washed out. You'd have to think we'd have to play a doubleheader tomorrow.

According to Weather.com, it doesnt seem like the real strong stuff will hit until 10pm. There is a window of rain and thunder in the 8:00 hour but then nothing at 9. If those reports are accurate i think we will ge this in.

On this day 139 years ago today (that's Sat 24 June 1876 for the arithmetically challenged), the CUBS beat NY handily to complete a 3 game sweep of the Mutuals.

Gam# Date Opponent Score
027 Sat 06/24/1876 New York Mutuals 16- 2

This gave the CUBS (known then as the White Stockings) a record of 23-4 (.852) and a 2.5 game lead on the 2nd place Hartford Dark Blues.
