Going for second there may be dumber than anything Castro has ever done. Entire play is right in front of him

 

I'm going to cut him some slack. By the time he would have realized how badly the geometry screwed him there, it would have been tough to stop his momentum and get back to first. Perfect bounce off the wall, perfect throw. Tough play.

How did MLB possibly take something that was pretty good in its first year and make it worse in its second? Half the time I have no clue what they are going to pick and the other half of the time I am wrong. There were shots that showed Denorfia was safe.

 

Also, get rid of the whole "clear and convincing" or "indisputable" language. Why should we be handicapped by what the original guy saw in real time from one angle? Replay could be so much better.

Not only do they take the original call into account too much, they also take forever to make the call. If they aren't going to overturn the call unless it was an embarrassingly awful one, then they should be able to see that after, like, two looks.

 

If you ARE going to take 4 minutes to look at the replay, then actually make the call based on what the video says, which is what they should do.

Just a curious side note. I really wonder how New York comes to a conclusion on a replay. Are there like half a dozen umpires watching and discussing their opinions and then they come to a conclusion together? Is this why some reviews take awhile because some of them are arguing with each other?

 

I have not seen or heard any explanation as to what actually goes on in this room.

MLB Network had a great show about umps during the last World Series. They basically showed a room full of people looking at the play from a variety of angles with 1 umpire making the ultimate call to send back to the umps on the field. I'm assuming it's a similar setup for regular season games.
