I don't see Edmonton making the playoffs. Columbus yes but not Edmonton.

How are they going to get to 3rd in the Pacific? I doubt the WCs come from there as they both would probably come from the central

LA, Anaheim, Calgary, and Vancouver will easily finish ahead of them. Plus their D pairings are one of the worst in the NHL.

The oilers are going to make a 30 point jump this season? Ok

I don't think its impossible. Definitely a big road to climb in one season but they have a lot of young talent.

Edmonton added:

- A new starting goalie in Cam Talbot, a guy who has put up elite save percentage numbers in his limited opportunities so far

- The best FA defenseman in Andrej Sekera

- An elite coach in Todd McClellan, who consistently had San Jose at the top of possession stats for many years

- The best prospect since Mario Lemieux

Consider that Crosby scored 102 points in his rookie season and McDavid is generally considered the superior prospect. McDavid will probably be an elite player from the moment he steps on the ice. Playmaking savants like McDavid tend to elevate the play of those around them as well. He is the rising tide that lifts all boats.

Late to the Saad fallout but I actually like the trade Stan made. He had to do something so he decided to collect a stud prospect and a good #2 Center for Saad who only has had one 20 goal season while playing with 2 hall of famers. The Hawks sold high.

McDavid scored five goals in a prospect game last night, the guy is unreal. Edmonton will be so much better next year, though I think they need to start unloading some of those prior top picks.

There's a 95/96 Hawks playoff game on NHLN right now. That was a pretty good team. Such a different game then, hasn't even been that long.

I loved watching those early to mid 90s Hawks teams. they could have easily won a cup

I didn't remember this but JR had a clear breakaway in OT of this game and was blatantly tripped. No penalty shot, not even a penalty. How times change.

20 years ago the nfl was also completely different.

is it the game against colorado? if so, that's the play that ended up leading to the roy quote about his rings plugging his ears.

They have this pop-up video thing going on with fun facts. Craziest is Sandis Ozolinsh just retired from the KHL last year. In 2014. Wow.

With Sharp, Bickell, and, to a lesser extent, Versteeg, still on the roster, should we start to be at all concerned that Stan overplayed his hand and/or the other GMs refuse to bail him out because they know he'll get the better of him? How long will Oduya wait for the cap movement?

Also, what is taking so long with Saad's contract with Columbus? Any chance he just takes 1 year with them and becomes a UFA after next season?

Saad signed with Columbus on the 3rd.

Oduya and Kruger are both waiting things out, hoping to re-sign with Chicago, but they still have to clear salary.

Stan and company have done the last minute cap clearing before. They'll get there.

Missed the Saad news during my drunken haze the past weekend. Carry on, then.

Is it possible they keep Sharp, Oduya, and Kruger if they get rid of Bickell and Versteeg? Or to keep Oduya both Sharp and Bickell have to go?

It appears Johhny Oduya is staying patient in hope of returning to #blackhawks. Told he turned down significant offer from #sabres

Not even Tallon would take Bickell?

Why would anybody take him?

He's only had a brief period of solid play, has a huge contract and is suffering from vertigo.

That brief period happened to be when it mattered most. "Playoff Bickell" was MIA this year in terms of goals but casual fans will remember him as the guy that had a great run during the playoffs. Also, there are teams that value big guys that hit people. Someone, somewhere is making the argument that Bickell hitting people helped win the Ducks series. Finally, there are teams that need to rweach the cap floor. Getting a guy with Bickell's potential for a draft pick wouldn't be a bad move if he were healthy. Once he can show that, they'll be able to find a taker. If he can't they might be able to LTIR him.
