I'm anxiously awaiting Kruk to tell us that Schwarber is a 1B and has never caught in his life until this season. The Cubs moved him there over converting him into a pitcher since he's blocked long term everywhere else.

Soler is eligible to come off the DL Wednesday (17th) I believe

I read yesterday that he's in a walking boot, and he might be able to come out of that by today, and resume baseball activities not long after. So it will probably be a few weeks.

Isn't he eligible to come off the DL tomorrow?

I love this move, but the pessimist in me still wonders whether I should be at all concerned that Bryant, Russell, Schwarber, and Baez may all be due for free agency in the same year.

if we care about all four of those guys at that point, things will have gone very well (except for the fact that none of them signed extensions, which will be weird).

Russell and Bryant are each under the control of the dark one, so I'd be surprised if either were to sign anything before they reach free agency; unless it's of a very player friendly (read:agent friendly) variety.

Not every injury needs a rehab assignment. He sprained his ankle, he doesn't need to go to AAA to test it out before he's ready, he can do that in pregame drills.

Eh. Rizzo/Bryant need to be 2-3. Why put a low OBP in front of them, moving one to the 4th spot. Meaning, the one hitting cleanup is likely going to be leading off a bunch of innings when the other doesn't get on base.

CF Fowler

RF Soler

SS Castro

2B Russell

3B Baez (if we're including Soler, might as well include Baez)

Remember when a good number of people were like "WTF another hitter?" and "Why did we go with an underslot pick??" during the 2014 draft.

I thought even more people liked the Schwarber pick than picking Bryant. Huh.

as far as i remember, whoever was really positive on it, liked it because of the draft strategy it allowed more than they liked schwarber

and many didn't like it

So what you're saying is my decision to basically ignore the draft pick threads after about the first 5 minutes after the pick is sound.

I remember thinking the pick was OK and loving the strategy of spreading the money around on high upside pitching. In the end, it could wind up being a monster of a draft.

The fact that the first three picks fell the way they did helped with any backlash, but Schwarber was at the top of very few people's wish lists

I remember really liking the Schwarber pick because I thought he was possibly the best hitter in the draft and with the success our previous college hitter was having.

However, I did want Gray instead of Bryant the year before.

It probably has a lot to do with out FO thinking "screw pitchers forever."
