baseball is so random that i basically put equal expectations on every series, regardless of the team they're playing. if they're a good team they'll beat some good teams to make up for the series they lose against crappy ones. there are just way too many games in a season to even bother following the quality of opponents.

This. Obviously great teams will most often beat up on bad teams, but we aren't a great team.

 

I don't think you quite got what he was saying based on your two sentences.

Yes, I know baseball doesn't work like that. I just wish that if teams like the Astros and Twins can go on unprecedented runs, why can't we have any of that same magic?
