If we have 2 starters Maddon has no confidence in the ability to or can't go more than 5 or 6 innings max....they don't have the luxury of waiting a month or 2 IMO....I have personally have ZERO long term confidence in anyone in the pen not named Rondon or Grimm.

 

Did you have faith in Strop last year? Because his numbers are nearly identical except for ERA. FIP is a bit higher, WHIP is lower but H/9, BB/9, HR/9 and K/9 are almost identical.

 

In high leverage late inning situations as a set up/emergency closer type....no....average to slightly above as a middle reliever....yes
