Regardless of whether they should have overturned the call, the blame still falls on Castro. Players simply can't overslide bases now with replay in effect.

How do you fix doing what he did on that play?

Slide headfirst, pop up slide, slow yourself more in the process of sliding(especially since he clearly stole the base), etc

i don't get it. people come off the bags by a millimeters all the time, are they going to let red faced idiot managers challenge every [expletive] call?

maddon should have gotten himself ejected.

wrong, you make overslides unchallengeable.

That is the simpler solution, though not one available to Castro.

This is really what has bugged me lately. it's not exactly easy to keep a part of your body in contact with the bag through the entire tag if a guy is holding a tag on you.

Sliding head first is bad for the most part and I'm not sure players can situationally decide to slow down in that position. Pop up slide maybe but there's still a chance that you come off the bag. I file a play like that under, [expletive] that happens in baseball and nothing that can be completely fixed.

Thank God Arietta didn't just die.

Soler and Rizzo got this, people. It's all going to end well.

Not with the umps' strike zone for Soler.

Which is just going to make it that much sweeter. He will have vengeance.

I don't see a particular problem with sliding head first into 2nd, especially on a stolen base attempt where the fielder is waiting for the ball the whole time and not potentially stomping on fingers. It's not ideal or extremely easy, but you can use a feet first slide to dull your momentum too. Castro just rode the slide through the base, and I don't blame him for the out and agree that it's a 'stuff happens' play, but he could have done more to avoid that problem.

Now he isn't going to call the corners? [expletive] this guy.

isn't this the same crew that screwed Gallaraga out of his perfect game?
