It's looong past time for the home plate ump to be nothing more than the token guy that only signals what the pitch track tells him the pitch was.....consistent zone.....day in day out.

 

I'm still PO'd about the 2nd and 3rd "called" strikes on opening night against Rizzo with a runner on 3rd 1 out down 1......but that's just me. :D

Yes. Borderline calls on an individual basis are going to go against you, but they really seem to be stacking up on one side and have killed some key AB.

Like the location yesterday struck out Myers? I'm not going to get bent out of shape about that pitch being called a strike on Soler on its own, but this series has seemed one-sided from my very biased eyes. Not saying it's on purpose (that's ridiculous), just that it has not been going our way with the home plate ump the last two days.

 

And that just happens sometimes.

Eh. He had 24 K's in 24 games last year. He's now got 13 in 10. He's not been as good as we'd hoped in that regard, but he's not doing THAT much worse than he did last year in his MLB stint.

 

That said, he's supposed to be the prospect with better all around hitting skills and an excellent knowledge of the strike zone, so he's probably striking out more than he really should be. I think he'll grow out of it start making more contact as he gets settled in more. He was still hitting .294/.359/.529/.888 coming into the game so we shouldn't be too concerned.
