I have a question that will make me look stupid but I have to ask.

Does it seem like in the first two games that Bryant is either swinging too early or too late and that's why everything he hits seems to go foul? The two hits he got obviously weren't hit hard.

Just wondering. I'm an idiot when it comes to breaking down swings, etc.

Hard to blame someone for off-timing when three of the first pitchers he's seen are Kimbrel, Shields, and Ross. He'll be fine.

For sure.

After today the Cubs are tied for the 2nd most stolen bases in MLB at 12, 1 behind leader Detroit. They've only been thrown out twice so they're currently sitting on a 86% success rate.

I love the aggressiveness late in games, too. It's a facet of the game that we've been missing for a long time. Maddon is pretty smart about choosing good times to send the runner. Cubs have shown great base running intuition all year, now that I think about it. Herrera, yesterday....Bryant taking 2nd on his single today. Very good fundamental baseball from the team so far.

They've only been thrown out twice

Who threw them out, Molina? Does that even count?

Castro was thrown out by Rosario of the Rockies, and Coghlan was thrown out by Pena of the Reds. La Stella was the only attempt against Molina, he was successful.

The bit about Molina is instructive though, means they've attempted 13 steals in 8 games since that series.

Just curious, how are you finding that specific info? Game logs? Or is there an easier way?

Game logs. I had seen that Castro and Coghlan were the two CS before I made my post, so searching their Game Logs on BR to find the date of the CS was the fastest.

i mean i'm sure it was fun to win after theriot almost gave it way in the 9th with that incredibly bad throw but they still blew like a 7 run lead with two innings (??) to go

CUBS are 3-4 (.429) when they steal a base.... 3-0 (.000) when they don't

Go CUBS !!

Why in God's name does Coomer do any play by play while Hughes is in the booth?

no idea, he is truly at awful at conveying what is going on. i didn't even realize coghlan had struck out until they said castro was up

so...swing and.... up the middle. he's there in time.

Cheer up Charlie. Onward and upward. There are more games to play and plenty more to win.

Hendricks wasn't too hot in Colorado but that doesn't mean anything.

It's probably going to be an amazing weekend to grill meats.

May I suggest a nice cowboy steak?

Did a thick cut t-bone after the game. It was delicious.

Went with a ribeye, I made a whiskey pan sauce to go with it.

My favorite SB was Rizzo's second one yesterday. Bryant was behind in count 0-2 to Kimbrel, so if Rizzo gets thrown out, Bryant gets a fresh count the next inning. Plus, it led to the game winning run, which is quite a bonus.
