Even if you want to throw there, don't throw a fricking slant into the heart of the defense. Throw some sort of crappy fade or something.

But throwing was dumb. Just run it on 2nd down.

Whoever called the play (Carroll/OC/Wilson audible, whatever) out thought himself. You've got 1-3 plays left so you line up and you go with your best shot. If that doesn't work, oh well. But you have to go with your best option, which was running the ball in some way with either Lynch or Wilson.

Conspiracy theories are out. Seattle didn't run the ball, because they didn't want Marshawn Lynch to get the MVP (would have been his 2nd TD, to go with 100+ rushing and a big 31 yard catch on that final drive). Him getting the MVP would mean he would be interviewed on live TV and embarass the franchise with his answer.

Someone also mentioned that Seattle wanted to keep leverage in contract negotiations and they couldn't NOT pay him if he won the MVP.

Tonight's real champion.

Thanks. That was me in that costume... as far as anyone knows.

Who votes for MVP? I think the media would have made the case for Chris Matthews and not given it to Lynch out of spite.

I have less problem with the play call than I do with the execution. Wilson shouldn't force that throw.

When Wilson needs to make the decision to throw, you aren't going to be more open than that, it wasn't forced. It was just a tremendous play by Butler, and maybe a little bit of good fortune that he was allowed to run through the receiver's shoulder to make the play.

He has clear eyes on a perfectly positioned DB who is leaning in ready to pounce.

That's horrible QB decision making.

And a terrible throw.

I know it's something that's said entirely too much, but can you imagine the reaction if Cutler made that throw?

If Cutler makes that throw it's complete because he has more arm strength and it gets there in time.

I had to turn off Cowherd this morning (only on because Score was on commercial) because he kept calling everyone idiots for questioning the play call. His main argument was that the Pats had practiced for that play during Super Bowl week. I'm sure they did, but that doesn't mean you use that play with the game on the line and no margin for error.

Anyways, I know his whole thing is getting a reaction out of people so, you win again Collin.

Coaches rarely "take the blame" for a good play call. Even Pete knew it sucked after the fact.

Can't agree, Wilson is typically going to be able to cover the ~6 yards with his arm a lot faster than Butler can cover the ~4 yards with his feet. One of the reasons it's a bad play call is that you aren't going to get him the ball with a 5 yard cushion(what pass play from the 1 could?), but that's exactly how it's supposed to look.

in a fantasy world where he's capable of back to back Super Bowl berths, he probably escapes too much criticism (see: Carroll / Bevell backlash)

but in this reality his decision-making is always in question because he does things like name his kid Jaxon and refuses immunization

Cool references. Totally related!

I'm in this camp. Based on TO and clock I'm fine with a pass selection, but your QB has to know not to force it. An incomplete pass in that situation is ok. Just don't take a sack and don't turn it over. If someone gets open for the score that's a bonus.

As your picture clearly shows, he hasn't released the ball yet and the defender is moving forward. Obviously he isn't capable, "typically" or otherwise, of making up the difference, or else, you know, the guy wouldn't have caught it. Even if it is not intercepted, there is a high likelihood of the ball getting popped up into the air upon contact. He's not dealing with excellent receivers. It's not a make or break play. It's a horrible decision to throw there.

Tonight's real champion.

"Go to Julliard for dance they said. You'll have a job within a year of graduating, they said."

Actual quote from a dancer I know today "I want to dance in the super bowl! Even if I'm a weird shark"

I hope this turns out to be true. Great way to blow a title.

That can't be true. Besides Lynch isn't showing any angst over the play call and it not being him.

At 30 seconds, Pete Carroll couldn't possibly calculate all of that in his head while calling the play of the season at the same [expletive] time. He felt the play was the best choice to win. Period.
