So to recap from rotoworld:

The 49ers' Offseason From Hell continues. They've lost Smith, ILB Chris Borland, DE Justin Smith, RB Frank Gore, coach Jim Harbaugh, both coordinators and most of the coaching staff, ILB Patrick Willis, LG Mike Iupati, CBs Perrish Cox and Chris Culliver, WRs Michael Crabtree and Stevie Johnson, OLB Dan Skuta, and RT Anthony Davis.

I feel like they should be in the "worst team" derby.

How could the Bears be worse?

Boomer Esiason tweeted something about how not paying someone money you owe them is going to get you punched in the face. I guess he knows what really happened.

Story behind the punch that broke Geno Smith's jaw in two places:

At the heart of the dispute between former Jets LB IK Enemkpali and quarterback Geno Smith is $600 that Enemkpali believed Smith owed him, per league sources. Enemkpali purchased a plane ticket for Smith to attend his July 11 football camp at Pfugerville High School in Pfugerville, Texas. However, days before the camp, a person close to Smith was killed in a motorcycle accident in Miami and Smith did not attend Enemkpali’s camp, per sources. After Smith did not attend, Enemkpali demanded that the Jets’ quarterback refund him the $600 he allegedly used to purchase a plane ticket. Smith told Enemkpali he would reimburse him the money, but he did not. Enkempali confronted Smith today about the money and the confrontation ended in a punch and broken jaw.

Coach Jay Gruden revealed Niles Paul will miss the entire season with an "ankle fracture dislocation."

Paul's season is over before it even got off the ground. Early in Thursday night's preseason opener, Paul's ankle got rolled up and bent awkwardly at the end of a running play, requiring the cart and an air cast to get him off the field. It's a crushing blow to the Redskins, who are already concerned blocking TE Logan Paulsen may also miss the season with a toe injury. Jordan Reed, who missed the preseason opener with a hamstring injury, needs to get healthy because he's going to get all he can handle. Backup TE Je'Ron Hamm (leg) also got hurt Thursday.

So uh.... Do the Redskins just not have a TE at the moment?

“I was sitting right there and I would say this without going into too many details because we’ve already moved past it: Geno Smith did nothing wrong,” Marshall said on FOX TV Monday morning. “He did nothing wrong. … And that’s all I’m going to say about that because we have to move forward and I don’t want to be a distraction to our team, but Geno Smith did everything the right way.”

I fully supported Marshall on the Chicago Bears and completely buy him being a better person than he was as a younger player. But man, he is bat [expletive] [expletive] crazy.

A real pal would have felt bad for Geno's unfortunate situation that prevented him from showing up and just written off the money as a loss. That this guy was that crazy about reimbursement tells me Geno should have just scraped together a bit of pocket change and just paid the guy. Unless he really enjoys drinking steak and lobster dinner through a straw. Geno is young. He will soon realize that not everyone can be dealt with reasonably.

Exactly my point. Yes.

Former Bears QB Erik Kramer injured himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Was trying to commit suicide. Had been battling depression and his son had died of a drug overdose in 2011. Sad, but he's alive.

He's no doubt a big fan of James Harrison taking his kids' trophies away.

Interesting read on Chris Borland and his decision to retire.

Lots of talk about head injuries (and also other injuries he and a teammate played with at Wisconsin), but this was also interesting:

SHORTLY AFTER HE was drafted by the 49ers in the third round last year, Borland attended the annual rookie orientation put on by the NFL. The league tries to prepare young players for what to expect on and off the field, and it brought in two prominent retired players to give the rookies advice.

"Get yourself a fall guy," Borland says one of the former players advised. The former player, whom Borland declined to name, told the rookies that if they ran into legal trouble, their designated
fall guy would be there to take the blame and, if necessary, go to jail. "'We'll bail him out,'" Borland says the former player assured them.

Borland was appalled. "I was just sitting there thinking, 'Should I walk out? What am I supposed to do?' " he recalls. He says he didn't leave the room because he didn't want to cause a scene, but the incident stayed with him.

Also, of course the top two comments refer to him as a [expletive].

That's how it's supposed to be. I was so stunned when Vick went to prison, because that's not how it's supposed to work. Vick was the money maker. With his financial backing, all his crew had money/opportunities. Someone takes the fall for him, he continues to make money and that person does a couple years and gets fairly compensated when he gets out. Borland is not familiar with the old hood spiritual...."If I'm winning, the whole team winning".
