my favorite part is all the whining about the NFL being so harsh by Patriots apologists that seemingly have a new cheating related scandal every six months but do not understand why they should be targeted for cheating. (ken tremendous)

He's just going to be more rested for the playoffs now, and knowing Belichick Jimmy Garappolo will be awesome and they'll trade him for 2 first round picks anyway, so I don't know why they're so pissy.

i'm assuming this will be appealed, since "more likely than not that he knew" is pretty shaky ground for a substantial punishment.

Apparently that verbiage was used in the report because that's how the NFL wanted it to read

They way they worded the suspension, part of it is due to his lack of cooperation which gives the NFL wide latitude. Since he refused to let them see his phone apparently, that is all the NFL needs to suspend him.

i think drew magary says it best: deadspin.com/roger-goodell-is-a-[expletive]-eating-moron-1703762629

didn't think there could be a worse commissioner than gary bettman, but damned if goodell isn't giving it his best shot.

That is way overboard to me. I was thinking Brady might miss 2 games and none of the draft picks were going to get lost.

If he'd admitted it and saved them the trouble of all this nonsense, maybe. But Brady has been a dick about this from the word go. The NFL is pissed about it, and rightfully so. If anything, because of Brady's stature in the game, they had to punish him harshly, or they'd have been accused of going too soft on one of their biggest stars.

i do enjoy goodell's complaints about brady not being open and honest about this, given how brazenly goodell lied about any number of things after the ray rice videotape fallout.

Senator Reid tweeted about how much concern the NFL has about a football with too little air in it, but not as much for a racist, offensive team name.

so sports illustrated had its first ever HACKATHON challenge over the weekend in NYC and my friend's team won the inaugural event. the team he was a part of spent 24 hours programming and analyzing sports statistics with the goal of creating a "clutch rating" for athletes:

they completed one for football:

a little more about what they created:

i asked him if they're working on one for baseball and he said yes. i'm sure all the cardinals players will be at the top of the list.

so i'd imagine the calculus on 2 point conversions is getting much better with the new rules

has anyone run the numbers?

During the past two seasons, according to Pro Football Focus, NFL place-kickers converted 97.6 percent of all kicks between 30-35 yards when lined up in the middle of the field.

To put those figures in context, let’s plug them into the 2014 season. At 97.6 percent accuracy, we would have seen 1,200 of 1,230 extra points converted. Instead of eight misses, there would have been 30.

I'm a little surprised the success rate at 30-35 is THAT high.

Read some Twitter takes that said success rate will probably get higher with focused practice from that specific spot, too, which seems reasonable.

Frankly I'd just rather do the NFL Blitz system of free extra point or go for 2 than do what they're doing.
