That was just fantasy talk. I think i had Schaub that year.

Haha, I know...just was checking what you'd said about Kubiak and that came up in the search...was funny out of context.

According to widespread reports, the relationship between coach Chip Kelly and GM Howie Roseman has deteriorated.

On New Year's Eve the team fired player personnel executive Tom Gamble. Kelly and Gamble reportedly had a close relationship. According to Mark Eckel of NJ.com, it was thought that the Kelly-Gamble alliance would try to force out Roseman:

During the season, Kelly joined Gamble on scouting trips and the alliance created tension in the front office. Some speculated that Kelly — a popular head coach with a massive contract — and Gamble would team to force out Roseman, and Gamble would be elevated to general manager.

Instead Gamble was escorted from the team's facility on Wednesday.

The Philadelphia media painted it as a massive win for Roseman in the power struggle.

According to Eckel, the Kelly-Roseman tension increased Monday when Kelly narrowly painted the GM as just a salary-cap manager in a news conference. The quote:

I understand [the salary cap], but that's really what [Roseman] does an outstanding job of. I think since I've been here, one of the attractive things about this job, there are not cap issues. You don't look at it and go, 'Oh, my God. We're going to have to cut 12 players because we're going to be $40 million over the cap.' He does an outstanding job of that. That's his training."

That quote "infuriated" Roseman, Eckel says.

As Philly.com's Jeff McLane notes, Kelly has never praised Roseman's football knowledge since he joined the team.

For the sake of discussion, I wonder if Chip Kelly could be had in a trade?

I'd take him in a package deal with Gamble. And wouldn't give up more than a forth. Otherwise meh.

No thanks.

But I wonder if Gamble would extend that Kelly relationship to the current Oregon coach.

Yeah, I want Gamble and I'd be extremely interested in the Oregon coach. Not sure it would work, but definitely intriguing.

I don't follow college at all. Did Helfrich continue with Kelly's same system?

EDIT - Didn't take much googling for me to find my answer. Good enough for me. I want him.

DeCosta's gone. Ballard feels wrong to me.

I'll settle for Gamble, with or without a package. I think he'd hire a much better coach than what we've had around here.

@jeff_McLane

#Eagles announce changes in titles for Howie Roseman and Chip Kelly ...

@jeff_mclane

Roseman will be elevated to the role of Executive VP of Football Operations. Kelly will now oversee the player personnel department.

They basically made Kelly the GM and moved GM to...something else. Kelly wins.

Posted

yep, they promoted Roseman out of power and are giving Kelly the power to hire "his boss".

The successful head coach always wins a power struggle. No point in being dedicated to the CEO/Pres/GM/Coach hierarchy.

And just yesterday, it seemed like Roseman had won the power struggle.

@danpompei: Chris Ballard a strong, strong GM candidate for Bears. Knowing what he's about, he'd put emphasis back on defense and running the ball.

And getting the best terrible quarterback in the world.

Before I freak out I'll remind myself that Dallas recommitted to the run game and Romo has the top QB rating and they were the no 3 rated offense by weighted DVOA...

It doesn't have to be a bad thing and a return to the old Bears way

Romo has always had high ratings. He's #2 all time. It isn't because of a re-commitment to the run game. He's just damn good.

This is by far his highest rated QB rating and I believe DVOA as well. Their offense is very much improved as well.

Specifically to the Bears- Cutler played his best in a run-based variant of the West Coast offense. Getting some PA and being able to move the pocket could both be beneficial to the offense. It doesn't have to signal what Sulley said about going back to poor QB play.

A lot of teams have also had success lately with power run and PA vertical pass game.

Kubiak would be a disaster of a hiring. Not sure if people saw what he did in Houston.

He ran a pretty good team and got the most out of a middling quarterback then all was lost when that qb turned back into a pumpkin.

They jumped from 2 wins to 9 wins this season while using Case Keenum for awhile. Kubiak is a terrible coach.

So all the other seasons don't matter?
