I think Del Negro completed a 2 year contract and the Bulls decided to let him walk. It was definitely during the offseason though as the Bulls didnt want that stooge representing them at the LeBron meeting.

The real question is where Cutler ranks among QBs who would have otherwise been avae the past few years (draft or FA) and any opportunity costs we would have pursuing those.

I have a feeling Cutler would still be the best move. Only guy who jumps out is maybe Hoyer, but let's be honest that was out of nowhere and very reliant on hindsight.

My issue wasn't with them getting him. It was with the hope he would continue to progress from last year, he had improve to justify the contract. He's regressed and it is a financial liability so far.

It's not really a financial liability at all. They aren't being hurt financially because of Cutler. Cutler's contract isn't preventing them from being a better team or turning a profit, so there is no way to call it a liability.

Yeah, his contract is ultimately constructed just fine. They can cut their losses if need be soon enough because of it. I think people are just hung up on how much he's making this year in particular.

And it's not like they have been forced to release good players they wanted to keep or were unable to get outside help. The Bears aren't getting enough positive production from the past 4-5 drafts and their coaching staff is bad.

Yup. Cutler's contract has become to new Soriano's contract for frothing at the mouth meatballs.

Well a Thanksgiving firing would still have been fun so we could watch the media melt down about the Bears being classless or w/e.

you have an interesting idea of fun. I'd rather the Bears win than lose.

I want you to have this. While enjoying a huge turkey leg in one hand and a flagon of mead in the other.

I have an internal conflict the past two weeks of cheering for my team and liking it but knowing deep down nothing meaningful will come of the wins.

what are the chances anything meaningful comes from a loss? sure, they might fire Trestman, which would set the franchise back a couple more years while they rebuild the roster. they might not fire Trestman, and you'll have to suffer through the end of the year, at which they still might not fire Trestman. i say keep praying Trestman gets control of the team and they make a run at the playoffs, winning 5 more winnable games in a row. That would be fun.

In the front yard, in your tighty-whities, and then someone chases you off with a hose, just like that Jackass episode.

If the Bears didn't fire Trestman after giving up 100 points in a 2 week span with a bye week in between, they're not firing him after Thanksgiving.

A new coach should not set a team back years. Any coach is going to come in and use the roster as is.

Plus a better draft pick.

Maybe, maybe not, but from a practical standpoint, officially being eliminated from the playoffs and giving up 100 points to two very good offenses is more than a little different.

One of my strangest childhood memories is from my final year in the Cub Scouts where every meeting would end up with everyone in the troop/group/whatever the [expletive] basically being forced to wrestle on the front lawn of the house that hosted the meetings while the parents just stood around and talked.

There were only like 8 of us in the group, but 2 of the kids were, like, "LET'S WRESTLE!!!" every [expletive] time and somehow this ended up with us kicking the [expletive] out of each other with our parents watching when all I wanted to do was get home and get out of the stupid [expletive] uniform.

@AdamHoge: No update from Trestman on Briggs and Fuller. Hints that both could be a game-time decision.
