Say what you will about the contract, but I was generally always a big fan of Soriano. He had a hell of a career and was a pretty solid Cub.

Soriano was a big part of the reason the Cubs were the best team in baseball once. He was fun as hell to watch hit when he was on (Sept. 2007...dear god). And I was there for the walk-off slam. That's more than good enough for me. Godspeed, Fonzie.

Cubs reliever James Russell remembered the time Randy Wells asked Soriano if he had change for a hundred. Soriano responded: “Hundreds are change, babe.”

 

I saw Soriano (and some white guys I assume were on the team, but didn't recognize) at the strip club here in Pittsburgh the night before my wedding in 2007. I know 2 other people that saw him at the same club on 2 other ocassions. Hopefully, he didn't have that same $100 philosophy there.

I really wouldn't mind seeing him brought on in some coaching capacity, but I have no idea if he or Maddon would have any interest in that.

I enjoyed sitting in left field watching Soriano practice his batting stance between pitches, point at bleachers how many outs there were, and that hop he did before a catch was pretty edgy.
