I remember when we sent down Travis Wood because we thought Chris Volstad was better.

If we hadn't done that, we wouldn't have Kris Bryant.

RT @Sullivan_Ranger: Rangers working to sign reliever Kyuji Fujikawa. Deal is pending a physical as he had elbow surgery this past season

In retrospect, that was one expensive ass fist pump.

He's hardly been mentioned in rumors so far this offseason, but Colby Rasmus makes a lot of sense for us at this point.

I kept meaning to bring him up. I'd definitely take a chance on Rasmus, especially since he might not cost a whole lot in both years and dollars. His power is underestimated.

Arguello posted the question of how would you fill out the roster if you had 10 mill left to spend: which is a decent question.

I'd add Rasmus at 1/10 and Anderson at 1/6. Trade Wood for prospects and be done with it, unless I could trade Vogelbach, Johnson, and Almora for a Sonny Gray type of pitcher.

I'd be okay with Rasmus on something like 1/10. On one hand, his K and BB rates at are trending in the wrong directions (we have enough low on base guys) and he's not going to play a full season.

On the other hand, CF is the one spot where we have a legitimate power shortage and I like the idea of Rasmus playing against righties. It does open up the question of what to do with Mendy, as I'd like him to continue to get PAs.

Rasmus had an interview a few months ago talking about how it's not fun right now and how many people were pulling him in different directions and stuff like that. He seems like the perfect fit for a guy like Maddon to me.

He probably needs to stop listening to his father instead of his coaches. Hasn't that been his problem throughout his career?

we're not quite yet assured of the single-season team strikeout record, and he would really help out there

Not a big fan of Rasmus, personally.

Fun exercise though. With the caveat that it doesn't look like a bigger deal can happen, I'd go something like:

- Trade EJax and cash for Maybin

- Trade Wood for the best you can get(maybe target Diekman from Philly)

- Trade Coghlan for whatever you can get(maybe target Furbush from Seattle?)

- Sign Itoi or Aoki

Yeah, his father was one of the group making it hard for him. And to Sneaky-he does K a bunch, but he didn't early on. No clue if that's fixable or not.

I'd like this a bunch.

Alternatively, if you really want to add a SP, trade Jackson for as much salary relief as you can get, Wood too if need be, then sign Maeda. If you can take on money in a Wood trade then the Wood for Revere deal that some beat writers have mentioned wouldn't be so bad either. Then sell Coghlan for whatever you can get.

I think our rollover money went to Lester's signing bonus, to keep his yearly salary down somewhat. Which is disheartening, as I think it really puts into question if we truly have the ability to get Moncada, if he lasts long enough.

I came back here to argue with you but I guess I didn't realize that Steamer had projected 13 HR for Mendy. Sexy.

i don't understand the steamer projections, they seem very conservative to me. none of our pitchers is going to get more than 153 innings?

Looking at historical performances it's not a crazy projection for any of them other than Lester really. 153 seems a little low, but I understand it.

I know a guy that played with Rasmus in some Winter league or something and said he wrote his own raps.

It's a combination of regression and the paradox of trying to project playing time. They only project 5 players in MLB to reach 200 IP even though 35 guys did last year. Part of that's choosing the middle of the road projection for everyone, and part of that is being 'forced' to project a playing time midpoint that adds up properly.

This. Alcantara should hit at least 15 hrs full time in CF.

Posted
Yeah, Alcantara has more than adequate power for CF. He hit 20 HR combined between AAA/MLB last year that would have tied him for 7th most HR by a CF in the league last year. So if he settles in as a 15-20 HR guy he's going to be around top 10 in HR every year for CF. He also had 36 2B and 13 3B combined between AAA/MLB, he hits for plenty of power.
