I really do hope we sign him. Who are other teams that might be aggressive?

Adding Maddon and Martin would be an A+ start to FA and would multiply our sexy by about thirty. What FA pitcher wouldn't want to sign up?

I don't really care about the order, though hitting the pitcher 8th would be fun, but just go ahead and put Valbuena at 5 and Bryant at 7.

A catcher who is going to be 32 when the season starts and coming off a career year and likely to 15M a year over 3 or 4 years. Yeah, I'll pass.

This is dumb logic, because by the time that contract is terrible, Schwarber will be starting and hitting 30 dongs a year for almost free so it won't matter if we're paying him $5M a year to catch once a week.

Am I missing something? Why would we only be paying him 5M a year when he's going to get 15M annually?

maybe russell (and the players union) will get confused and he'll sign an nfl contract that reads 6/102 but is actually 2/10 and a bunch of horrifying team options

I'm going to laugh laugh my ass off if Martin comes to the Cubs and his magical framing abilities are suddenly lost.

If the Cubs signed someone with amazing pitch framing abilities, that would probably be the day MLB implements robo-umps.

catchers aren't that good anymore to begin with so they probably don't get all that much worse when they age...at least not early 30's.

Because reading is apparently exceptionally difficult for me. Geez, that was bad.

Although the point remains, and I'll be shocked if Martin gets anywhere near $15M annually, which is probably why my brain thought $15M was over 3 years.

I'll be shocked if he doesn't.
