has there been any correlation between high minutes usage and injury? We all know there is such a correlation between innings pitched and injury, but I've never read a report or heard any statistics supporting minutes played in basketball and injury.

Maybe not injury, but I'm betting there's probably some significant correlation between minutes played and FG% on shots outside 15 ft late in the season and playoffs.

So your theory is that there's an irreversible, cumulative reduction on FG% outside of 15ft over the course of a single season? What would be the significant threshold here?

Not irreversible, but probably close with the type of player you're going to be looking at here since short of an injury they most likely wouldn't see a difference making reduction in minutes. As to what the threshold would be, I have no idea. I just know from having played a lot of basketball that when the legs go, so does the jumpshot. And it would probably be even more glaring of a drop if you looked at the difference in the second half of games during that same time frame.

I may be way off. Maybe these guys are skilled enough to make a significant adjustment when they lose a little lift late in the season.

Nice win against a really hot and good Toronto team.

Was at the game tonight. Rose was filthy at times and very physical. Butler is a beast and seems to do everything right. Joakim definitely slower than usual. Niko is a maestro on offense but isn't a very good defender yet.

Dang 49 points in the 4th quarter

He was traded last year....

That would've been a record, for sure.

I mean...it was anyway for the Bulls...most points in a single quarter in franchise history.

The Bulls scored 49 points in 28 possessions in the 4th quarter last night, for an offensive efficiency of 175, which is kind of insane.

EDIT: Also, they took just 20 shots in the 4th (lots of FTs, where they were 43-47 (!) from the line)

The Bulls are now 7th in the league in offensive efficiency (behind Dallas, Toronto, LAC, Golden State, Cleveland and New Orleans), and 10th in defensive efficiency (behind Golden State, Houston, Portland, Washington, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Atlanta, Memphis and Indiana).

So, Bulls vs. Golden State in the finals? That would be awesome.

Thibs isn't really doing anything to ignite the offense, right? They just have Gasol, Rose, Mirotic, and a better Butler this year.

They have the new plucky 3rd string PG too, but that's not really different from every other year. Taj, when he's healthy is scoring.

Do you really think the Bulls are gonna worry Cleveland or any team in the west when Nazr Mohammed is their 13th man?

The Bulls have an entire team of above average offensive performers, save one rotation player. Kirk Hinrich, who averages 28 minutes a game.

Hinrich has a total Value Added point total of -26.4 points on the year, meaning that if he played zero minutes, the Bulls would have been 26 points better. That puts him 436th out of a total of 442 players that have played in NBA games this year.

What's going on with Noah-Gibson?

Interesting. I'd like to see how Noah/Gibson have fared in the past. Maybe they are negative this year because they are so similar as players and they miss out on the added offensive punch of having Gasol/Mirotic in there?

Probably too small of a sample size and too many confounding variables to mean much of anything. But interesting, nonetheless.

It's crazy how good the Bulls have been on the road. If they had a normal good team home record (they've only played 11 so a 6-5 record doesn't mean much, they'll win more at home) They'd probably have a Golden State type record.
