Rose out again tonight. In his 7 year career he's only played in Memphis twice.

Ironically, that's the same number of times he went to class in Memphis too.

There's no obsession with Hinrich; he won't be playing as big a role later in the season.

I'm just curious - on what can this possibly be based?

Derrick playing 27 minutes per game up to this point.

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Mirotic is a beast. Big 4s simply cannot guard him.

Yeah, depending on Rose being healthy and playing big minutes - solid logic there. Besides, even if Rose gets up to 35 a night Thibs will just give Hinrich more of Dunleavy's minutes.

You've got this weird thing where you think Hinrich is "Thibs' guy." He was signed to be Rose's backup; Rose has either been injured or being worked back to full strength. If you have anything resembling a healthy Rose you won't see nearly as much Hinirch. He's not being played as much as he is because Thibs has a mancrush on him.

Let's talk about efficiency: Mirotic had 27 points on 10 shots. How in the world do you not find this guy 20-plus minutes a night even when everyone is back?

Everyone will never be back. Noah is going to be fighting injuries all season. And this team just can't stay healthy. Mirotic will find his minutes.

The writing has to be off the wall with a road win at memphis right without rose right?

It's a great win. But considering it took Mirotic going 6-6 from three and another 30 point game from Butler, there are reasons to temper the euphoria. Hopefully Thibs takes the right lesson here - by using Niko in the 4th, he forced Memphis to bench Randolph. He's normally one of the slowest coaches in the league to make adjustments.

The biggest issue is still the lack of wing depth, and Thibs insistence on playing every game as if it were Game 7 of the finals. Butler played 89 minutes in 2 days. He's the runaway league leader in minutes . Take a look at Butler's numbers in the last month and playoffs last season and then claim there's no reason to be concerned.

So this is going to be the annoying thing that's repeated all season ruining reading basketball forums for an entire season even though the team's good.

Championships are hard to win, we probably won't win one just because the odds are always against it, this team has a decent chance of doing so. I don't see the point in consistently harping on the flaws repeatedly like some do.

That reminds me of the knee-jerk derision of anyone who dares to criticize a move the Cubs FO makes. Sip the kool-aid or get lost.

It isn't though.

I'm not talking about discussing flaws with the team. I'm talking about harping on the same point repeatedly, which is especially annoying when the team is winning. Bulls fans have been especially obnoxious about this for quite some time now.

Plus, I'm pretty sure that Bulls discussion on a random Cubs message board isn't going to ruffle any feathers.

Bulls give a team their 5th loss of the season in their building, without their star player, but you gotta make sure everyone knows right away that there are flaws on the team!

I know people sometimes refer to Japan as being on a different planet, but you may be surprised to learn that everyone challenging your opinions isn't automatically on drugs or following group think, despite how constantly hypocritical you are on the subject.

He didn't challenge the opinion. He said he didn't see the point of it, but he didn't in any way challenge it's truth or validity.

Right, because it's the semantics that are the issue here. The mere fact that he responded in tow implies he took it as a challenge, but thank goodness Kyle is here to nitpick semantic flaws to get to the heart of the issues.

It's an important distinction.

"I think your opinion is wrong and here is why" is a cool thing to say.

"I can't even be bothered to disagree, but I think it's lame that you want to talk about that on-topic thing because I don't care about it" is stupid as hell.

Posted

"I don't disagree but do you really need to say it over and over again because sports are fun and what's the point of worrying about how we might suck later" is more the position I'm taking.

I don't really get the timing of essentially saying "hey, we probably won't win a title guys" after a fun win.

His point is valid. He's sick of hearing thAt our no.4 guard sucks even if it's true. I understand complaining about hinrich right after he blew a game but not after a big road win vs Memphis. That is a time to allow yourself to be positive about the basketball team you like. Otherwise you should seriously stop following pro sports teams because it seems to only make you anxious, depressed and afraid.

As for this minutes per game thing. Yes butler is leading the league. But sitting 2mpg below him is Lebron and kyrie and a few more down the list is kevin love. So if you are one of these mpg obsessives you should be really happy that our biggest competition in the east is using their big 3 at a high rate while the bulls continue to win without leveraging Rose and Noah.

If we rode butler and Pau into the ground for a 1 or 2 seed but kept rose 100pct healthy and gave Noah all the time he needs to work the knee issue out, I'm perfectly fine with it. Butler is young and strong and should be able to handle a big minute load at his age.

@KCJHoop: Jimmy Butler is 25 years old, averaging 39.9 minutes per game. At 25, MJ averaged 40.2 minutes. At 25, Duncan averaged 40.6 minutes.

Oh.

has there been any correlation between high minutes usage and injury? We all know there is such a correlation between innings pitched and injury, but I've never read a report or heard any statistics supporting minutes played in basketball and injury.

Maybe not injury, but I'm betting there's probably some significant correlation between minutes played and FG% on shots outside 15 ft late in the season and playoffs.
