i thought about asking fred to let me start the last gam thread of the year, but i eventually decided GOOD RIDDANCE. 2014 was a slight improvement in that some new good guys started showing up, but it wasn't close to enough. next year is everything.

Jeez that ERA disparity might be larger than EJax/Kershaw

Unfortunately since the MLB ends their seasons on a Sunday, minimizing almost all exposure by directly competing with the NFL (despite the one season they ended on a Wednesday being one of the most memorable moments in recent baseball history) I probably won't watch any of this. Thanks for an interesting year Cubs.

Since there's no recent Other Games Thread, one playoff spot and 2 division titles on the line on the last day of the season. All you can ask for!

Can't believe the Mariners are still in it, and have Felix on the mound today.

For Seattle to make the division series they will have to win 3 straight win or go home games, today at home against the Angels (while hoping Oakland loses in Texas), tomorrow at home against Oakland, and then Tuesday on the road against KC or Detroit.

In the AL Central, Kansas City needs to beat the Sox while Detroit needs to lose to Minnesota to get 2 shots at the division series. If that happens, Kansas City travels to Detroit. The loser hosts the Wild Card game against Seattle/Oakland.

In the NL central, Pittsburgh needs to win in Cincinnati with the Cardinals lose in Arizona to get 2 shots at the division series. If that happens, Pittsburgh travels to St Louis. The loser hosts San Francisco in the WC game.

Playing for draft position today...

The White Sox win a tiebreaker with the Cubs and the Cubs win a tiebreaker with the Phillies. That means the Cubs could be drafting anywhere between 7 and 9 (accounting for Houston's compensation pick) depending on the outcomes of Cubs/Brewers, White Sox/Royals, and Red Sox/Yankees.

I guess Baez has gotten to the point where he can't even make contact with fastballs now, that first K was on a fastball that seemed to catch a large portion of the plate.

He missed two in that AB. Looks completely lost.

Oakland leads 2-0.

St. Louis wins the NL Central as Pittsburgh lost to Cincy.

Detroit wins the AL Central by beating Minnesota.

Boston trails 9-0 in the 7th, and the White Sox lead the Royals 4-2 in the 5th. If both those scores hold, this Cubs game is meaningless for draft position.

So...win!

Jordan Zimmerman threw a no-hitter today, only walking one batter and allowing a second to reach on a wild pitch on a third strike.

So what is our draft position if everything holds and we win?

We're currently in 7th, but I'm not sure what happens if we win and tie with Philadelphia.

Order: Reverse order of previous season's record. If tie, the year prior to previous is used as tiebreaker

I believe if we lose, we get the 8th pick (assuming Boston doesn't come back). If we win and the White Sox win, we get the 8th pick. If we win and the White Sox lose, we get the 9th pick.

It's looking like 9 right now.
