Usually these upset bids are ground into dust by Oregon in the 3rd quarter, but Wazzu is driving for the tying score as the 4th starts. Hmmm.

then decided to kick a field goal because they definitely want to lose

Managed to hold Oregon to one on the other end, though.

They went for it and missed earlier, and missed a FG as well. They easily could be winning this game.

The much-vaunted FSU offensive line has been bad.

No kidding. With that much experience, and a first-time starter, you would have thought they would step up. Granted, they were better in the second half, but we still couldn't run the ball until OT.

Our C, Barron, was the worst of the bunch.

That's an all time choke right there.

Sorry, that belongs to UF in 1994 vs. FSU.

Florida's offense has been pretty awful in the Muschampe era. If they hsve a mediocre season and get abused by GA, he may be gone. I'd love him as Ark's DC.

I'm hoping we can land him at FSU, so he can hang with his BFF Jimbo. He's good as a DC, great on the recruiting trail, and his salary would be subsidized by our biggest rival.

When it comes out later today Id like the top 10 to be:

Alabama

Oklahoma

A&M

FSU

Oregon

Ole Miss

Baylor

ND

South Carolina

Its very important that the voters start holding BYU down in the polls. If they are in the #15-#18 area this early they are a virtual lock for the playoff. They really grinded one against UVA at home. BYU is a nice team but its a shame that in the first year of the playoff a spot will be wasted on a team that absolutely does not belong. There are about 15-20 teams in the country that would go undefeated with their schedule.

The SEC west is going to really own the polls. Ark should be in the top 20 after two straight impressive victories over decent teams. They have bama georgia and A&M consecutively and I think they could be dangerous enough to win one of those games.

As for coaches I think should be fired immediately, fire Golden Muschamp and Hoke right now. Whats the point in keeping these guys around.

Muschamp has absolutely proven he is incapable of fielding an offense and his defense got absolutely torched yesterday. In his first three years he had more loses than Urban Meyer did in his six years, more than Zook in his three years, and he has already lost as many league games as Steve Spurrier did in the HBCs 12 years. When almost every other team in the SEC has improved, Florida has taken significant steps backward. Just fire him now.

Al Golden was brought in to restore Miami, and he has not done that, and I cant believe anybody thinks he will. If miami is okay being a program where they get beaten by every decent team they play, then fine keep him around because he hasnt gotten caught doing anything terrible.

And Hoke should have never been hired. He had fair records at his previous jobs (low level FBS jobs) and should have never been hired into one of the premier coaching positions in all of football.

what candidates are out there that'll really inspire hope? it seems firing a HC midseason's basically an exercise in self-immolation, anyway

i'm fine with moving on, but i don't see much benefit to showing Hoke the door right now

It remains to be seen how or if the polls will affect the committee, but theoretically they will have nothing to do with the committee selections. I seriously doubt a 12-0 BYU were to get in unless there's carnage everywhere else.

Ed Ogeron's success last year in the interim might be distracting people - that's incredibly rare. The only benefit to firing a coach midseason is recruiting and even that is limited because the interim coach will be gone in three months.

I think that the polls will have a huge impact on the playoff committee. If BYU is an undefeated top 10 team in both polls, I think they are a shoe in. Its unfortunate, but i think it will be hard for the committee to not use 1 spot in the playoff for what is potentially the only unbeaten team. And carnage is inevitable when half the team in the running for the playoffs are in the same division.

ND is really in great shape. They have 3-4 tough games on the schedule and they will be able to get in with one loss. Personally I think they beat stanford at home. By the time they go to Tallahasse they will be #2-#4 in the country vs #1 FSU. They could lose that game and not get too punished in the rankings, or win that gamne and be a virtual lock for the playoffs.

Every year people try to do this and every year it ends up a futile exercise. Florida State has not looked invincible against real competition(with the caveat that there's like 3 real teams they play), and you can make the argument that Notre Dame still has the 5 or 6 toughest games on their schedule still to come. BYU still has several road games left against decent teams, and if Boise State's recent history is any example, BYU is absolutely not guaranteed a playoff spot, even if they run the table without playing a Top 25 team. It's September 21st, trying to forecast the playoff implications of this week's results is more than a little silly.

Without knowing how the conferences shake out, I think only a loss at FSU puts them in great shape as a 1 loss team.

If they end up with only one loss (that isn't FSU), that means they have a win over #1 FSU in Tallahassee. Hard to see them not getting into the playoff with that resume.

Well part of the fun or me is making guesses at such things. Of course BYU could lose 3 games. Nobody saw a mizzou auburn sec title game at this point last year. I understand this, trans but this is part of the fun.

Usually this doesn't start until late October when there are 5-7 undefeated teams in major conferences and everybody thinks 3-4 teams are going undefeated because they'll be favored the rest of the way. But I guess with two extra teams getting in this year, we have to start early.

I like your optimism, but it has a way of working itself out every year.
