I honestly have no idea what to expect with this defense. Last year Peanut looked slow in the preseason, but was fine in the regular season until he got hurt. I'm hoping the same for Briggs this year minus getting hurt. The line could be top 10, but I doubt the overall defense is much better than 15-20. How deep into the playoffs can the Bears go with a 20th ranked defense?

lol lance briggs decides to go open a restaurant rather than practice

And Trestman ok'd it. It's so weird. It's not something that's going to decide our season or anything, but...I'm not a fan.

It's a non-story. Practice is every day, opening a restaurant happens once. It's not like he skipped practice to go eat at a restaurant.

Oh look, a Packer fan and Rick Morrissey combine to make a story out of nothing.

Eh, missing reps for Lance is probably no biggee, but the rest of the LB's missing reps playing with Lance isn't a good thing. Not like we have pro-bowl vets at the other LB's.

It's not a huge deal, but it's not nothing.

I do think it's dumb and a bit annoying that he's doing it on a day they were supposed to practice. But beyond that, it's not really an issue.

Rule of thumb - if you're on the same side of something as Rick Morissey, you should rethink your position.

In training camp fine...this is game week. Do it last week. Do it today, which is already an off day. It's just odd.

I think it's a bit more than nothing. Your comparison to how often practice occurs and opening restaurants is pointless, it's not a child being born.

Practice is part of the job that is even allowing him to open said restaurant. Any on field responsibility with the Bears should always come first.

He shouldn't have timed it to where it could even possibly overlap with the regular season.

Why is this game on Fox? Aren't NFC home games against the AFC usually on CBS?

I think I asked about this earlier this summer and somebody responded with a breakdown of a slightly different distribution of afc/nfc games.

http://awfulannouncing.com/2013/get-ready-for-more-nfl-flexing-in-2014.html

When the new NFL TV contracts begin in 2014, be prepared for more of the flex schedule. We're not talking about increased flexing for Sunday Night Football, although the NFL will have the right to start flexing earlier in the season. It currently begins in Week 11.

Starting in 2014, CBS and Fox will be able to air more attractive games in the 4:25 p.m. ET window. And that means you could see a 1 p.m. ET or 4:05 p.m. Fox game in a CBS late afternoon window and vice-versa. In a nutshell, you will see NFC games on CBS and AFC contests on Fox. Confused?

I'm ready to move on from Lance Briggs. We desperately need GOOD youth at the LB position.

Well sure, but...we don't have that. I'm ready to move on from him when we have someone to move on with. Moving on from Urlacher was all well and good, but we haven't found that replacement.

@AdamHoge: P squad: WR Bellamy, C Boggs, DT Dunn, CB Frey, OL Groy, LB Lattimore, CB Louis-Jean , CB Terrance Mitchell, DT Roy Philon, WR Rashard Moss.

I assume he means Dale Moss.

No. It's Rashard Ross. He was in camp with someone and averaged like 34 yards per kickoff return. Really fast supposedly.

All of the Bears draft picks (plus undrafted rookie Christian Jones) made the team.

Second straight year that's happened. Heck, all the guys drafted in 2013 made this year's team too.

Sinorice Perry is also a UDFA that made the roster.

All 14 picks the last 2 years, 2 UDFAs from 2014 and a UDFA from 2013 are on the roster (Hurst). That also doesn't include Ola who was signed from Canada. Of course, the 2 mentioned by name probably took roster spots away from Michael Ford and CJ Wilson, who made the team as UDFAs last year.

You sure about that? Looks like he's been eating a few more meals these days.
