Hank Schulman reiterated price is VERY HIGH on Bonifacio. Which is great.

I don't remember the circumstances exactly. But KC had just exercised his option, but then signed a FA a few days later and went over their budget, hence, they waived Emilio.

They basically saved themselves a couple million dollars and took a lesser player to fill the same role. Pretty awesome for a season where the Royals are supposedly all-in.

The Cubs are expected to trade Emilio Bonifacio by the end of the day, according to major league sources with knowledge of the situation. The Giants, Mariners, Reds and Orioles are among the teams with interest in the 29-year old, but it is unclear where he will be traded.

Bonifacio is not in the lineup tonight for the Cubs, signaling that the team is on the verge of trading him. He would be a valuable commodity for a contender looking for a utility player, as he has hit .279/.318/.373 while appearing at second base, shortstop, third base and center field in 69 games with the Cubs on the year.

The asking price is said to be high for Bonifacio, who is a free agent after the year. Chicago is likely to acquire one or two prospects in return for him, and the high level of interest will probably net them a valuable return.

#Cubs lineup does not include Bonifacio

Per Muskat: Chris Rusin is at Wrigley to help out with all the pitchers used in last night's marathon, but can't be added until Bonifacio is traded or some other move is made.

Is it safe to assume that the hold up here isn't about Theo and Mystery GM discussing the return for Bonifacio so much as working on a multi player deal?

No. Why would it be safe to assume that?

Because Team B may very well have some degree of interest in various spare parts. I can't imagine taking this long to agree on a deal for Bonifacio alone.

No, most likely as simple as the Cubs are asking for too much in return and nobody wants to pay it.

That...doesn't make it safe to assume anything. It makes it fun to guess.

More likely reasons are that the return involves someone that needs further research/evaluation, like a player with recent injury troubles, or even more likely, that Bonifacio is a decent player having a good season and the market is very light on 2B or CF so Theo/Jed are holding out for the best they can get for him.

From what I've been seeing, the deal is already in progress. I can't imagine they'd be back and forthing this long while we play a man short.

To be clear, I'm not talking blockbuster. Guys Villanueva and Schierholtz who have no business taking innings or ABs from younger options. They might not have a ton of value, but for teams in a pennant race looking to fill a spot, it could up the return from a pair of raw, hard throwing A/A- relievers to a pair of slightly less raw, slightly higher ceiling, somewhat harder throwing A/A- relievers.

I like to think he's got Dayton Moore and Brian Sabean going against each other and waiting for Moore to give up Duffy or Sabean to give up Crick.

I think I heard Len say that Peter Gammons tweeted waiting on Boni to Atlanta.

I guess I could just look it up myself.
