but I'm not sure they're as good this year as last year (OMC can correct me if I'm wrong).

Good heavens no. The only player they had that was drafted was WR Donte Moncrief.

This year all those monsters they had in that giant recruiting class are now sophomores such as Laquon Treadwell and Robert Nkemdiche. Their 1st team All-American safety Cody Prewitt is back as well. But perhaps most important for Ole Miss is that they have the most seasoned QB currently playing in the SEC with Bo Wallace, who, by all reports is finally over the shoulder injury he suffered early in the season two years ago against Tulane, but always played through it. Basically Ole Miss has had Wallace at 60-70% his whole career and yet he still ranks second behind Eli Manning in most every Ole Miss QB record. So a lot of the buzz around Ole Miss this year has to do with the fact that they have a healthy Wallace for the first time coupled with the fact that he is a 3rd year starter.

Ole Miss finally has the SEC caliber defense to match a solid offense, especially on the D-line. Keep in mind that LSU and Bama are starting new QBs this year, and reports are that the Tide QB has looked really bad so far. The wild card here is Auburn. I still am not sold on their QB, and even a fans of theirs would admit that they were probably the luckiest team in the country last year. Defenses will adjust to Gus' scheme at some point. The homer in me says that Arkansas showed a ton of improvement over last season (hard not to) and the team will be that much better adjusting to Beliema's complete change in style and scheme.

South Carolina may be the class of the whole conference this year.

I tend to put a ton on the head coach and his staff when looking at a team, hence my feeling that Saban will figure things out in time to either win the West or just miss out again. Will they be a national juggernaut? Probably not, but I wouldn't completely rule it out either.

The same rule works in reverse with LSU. Miles is unpredictable and could really help, or really hurt, LSU this year. Auburn is intriguing and has some talent, but they'll have to prove to me they weren't a fluke that'll come back to earth some this year.

Hm, this is why I shouldn't trust my memory. Thought there were other significant Rebels in the draft.

I take it back then.

I don't think it's out of the question for the Rebels to win 10 games this year. Although realistically I see 9-3. Regardless, this is how they can get 10 wins.

-Boise State - W (certainly not what they used to be. Their 5 offensive linemen have never started a game before. Our A+ d-line should eat them alive)

-@Vandy - W (should be dreadful this year. All they had last year was Jordan Matthews and he's gone. So is Carta-Samuels)

-La-Lafayette - W

-Memphis - W

-Bama - L (we've beaten them once in the past like 15 years so I don't see that changing)

-@Texas A&M - W (the Rebels would have beaten them handily the past two years had it none been for Manziel. Lost by a field goal the past two years).

-Tennessee - W (should be good next season with all the new recruits beginning to come in and get older, but I don't think you are there yet.)

-@LSU - W (we have their number more than any other school and their QB situation is completely up in the air. I'll take our defense against a freshman QB any day of the year.)

-Auburn - L (this could go either way. I don't think Auburn was nearly as good as they seemed to be last year. Very lucky team. And losing Tre Mason is a major, major blow. His importance to that team last year cannot be overstated. Also, Carl Lawson is out for the year with ACL. But I can't imagine the Rebels winning 11 games, so I'm gonna go with loss.)

-Presbyterian - errr...W

-@Arkansas - W (they might win one SEC game this year, but it won't be against us)

-Miss. St - W (home team almost always wins these games. It's like clockwork)

I can see all of that. LSU/Auburn could both go either way, but I think a split is entirely realistic. A&M might be a bit of a toss up - they no longer have Manziel or Evans, but they do have Sumlin and he's a heck of coach.

-Tennessee - W (should be good next season with all the new recruits beginning to come in and get older, but I don't think you are there yet.)

Definitely some stud recruits coming in, but we're replacing almost our entire o-line (Butch intelligently redshirted Marcus Jackson last year rather than letting him back up so we'll have him) and our entire d-line. Even with all skill positions likely improving, I think that's going to devastate us in the SEC.

but they do have Sumlin and he's a heck of coach.

They won last year solely by their offensive prowess. 7 teams scored over 30 points against them and 4 teams scored over 40. Losing Manziel and Evans...that offense is gonna be hard pressed to outscore anyone with their atrocious defense.

I second this. That team was Manziel, Evans and a great O-line. Now that's gone and they won't have the offense to compensate for that awful defense. aTm comes crashing back to Earth this season in a bad way. Their young talent is still a year or two away from bringing them back.

EDIT: I think OM beats one of Bama or Auburn this year.

I don't think they'll win 10+ games, but I think they can be pretty tough in any given game due to very good coaching and scheming. Over the course of the season, though, the lack of high-end SEC talent couple with a lack of big time playmakers will catch up to them.

May not have articulated that well in the original post.

I have a hard time seeing the University of Mississippi winning both @A&M and @LSU, but like you said I could easily see them beating Auburn or Bama, so 10-2 is definitely doable

Are you saying that you think aTm and LSU are better than Bama and Auburn?

The Hogs will hopefully be not as terrible this year, perhaps getting at least one conference win.

I have seen this before but don't get it, but then again I don't get the whole hash tag thing anyway.

I get that you guys don't like Beliema, but he still gets another year at Ark before I start to really worry.

You are probably right. I think a 2-2 split in those games is completely reasonable.

If Ole Miss is ever going to win the West this is the year to do it. However, being Ole Miss they will probably go 6-6 with a home loss to those chumps from Starkville.

Oh and while we are talking about them, they are running a "Dak Prescott for Heisman" campaign which is completely laughable. Yeah his 10 TD and 7 INT season from last year is really worthy of potential consideration this year. I'll say this, if Eli Manning couldn't win the Heisman, then no QB from one of the Mississippi schools will ever win it.

If you're a Big 10 fan and DON'T hate Beliema, there's something wrong with you. He's just the worst

I am not in Arkansas to hear the talk radio goons, but the general consensus I think is that he should STFU. You can be an ass if you are winning, but another O for conference play will give the fans who already dislike him a reason to go after him.

Jen Beliema better thank her lucky stars that she is attractive. The tweets by both of them is a great example of what is strating to irritate folks in Arkansas.

I don't pay specific attention to the SEC all that often but man is that West division like 10 times better than the East.

Kind of like the B10 except our good division = your crappy one.

I looked at their tweets. What on earth are you talking about? Pretty average tweets for two white people.

winners like 7 of the last 8 years whilst your conference has 1 win in the last 15 years.

You don't get the irony of a coach who won ZERO conference games puffing himself up by including himself with the "winners"?

Beliema has shown his ass plenty in the last year, but I have no idea where you are seeing that he is "puffing himself up". He is a very well paid coach in the best football conference in the country. If he gets us back to respectability next year and bowling the next, he has every right to do so then.

I don't follow his tweets anymore, but he seems to have toned his act down a bit, as has his wife. He has already gotten into a little twitter argument with 2 coaches in the SEC, and just generally been obnoxious.
