I wouldn't trade Valbuena for Pomeranz straight up. I'm not against moving him for an arm at that level of experience, but I'm not a big fan of Pomeranz.

Pomerantz for Valbuena and the Cubs forgo the previous deal's PTBNL?

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking.

Yes. Valbuena's been a pleasant surprise, but Pomeranz is a guy who I'd love to see with a healthy dose of, dare I say, pixie dust.

I'm cool with a deal of that magnitude, but I'm on the fence for Pomeranz being the guy personally. A lot of different MLB chances and never better than averageish, some injury concerns, doesn't have insane stuff, etc.

He's had a little more success since leaving Colorado (though he never really had worse numbers at home). He had some success in relief this year, before going back into the rotation in May.

Valbuena has pretty much gone back to his previous norms average wise in the last month and a half, but is really not walking as much as he had been either. Ultimately, he'll be a utility guy and I think a 25-yo starter at best or decent reliever at worst is probably slightly more valuable.

That being said, I'm pretty much with you. I'd probably do the deal, but I'd hope it would be on the table a little later. I know the ML team doesn't matter, but I really don't want the alternatives playing everyday at 3B (Olt, Watkins, Valaika?) if Valbuena is gone. And that goes for the start of 2015 until one of the young guys establishes himself at the ML level.

The A's need a 2B bad and very soon. If Pomeranz is on the table, I'd jump on it.

That said, Valbuena has value to the Cubs for his versatility and ability to be a decent stopgap until the kids are up AND have no problem coming off the bench when that time comes. His selectivity at the plate and the moderate pop in his bat profiles as a good pinch hitter. I like him but for the lottery ticket that is Pomeranz (5th pick overall, 25 years old, MOR ceiling, good reliever floor), I'd do it.

@JonHeymanCBS mariners righty hitting options may include byrd (@jcrasnick) willingham rios viciedo & lake. http://cbsprt.co/TZCcNp

If they somehow pull that off you immediately call them back and scream this:

i actually went to b-r and typed in lake to see if he was possibly talking about some other guy with the last name lake.

maybe if they think that junior lake is the answer to their hitting woes than we can talk them into edwin jaxon being an answer to any pitching problems they might have.

According to Gordon Wittenmeyer of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Yankees could be interested in acquiring Edwin Jackson.

While Jackson is still owed roughly $26 million through the end of the 2016 season, the Yankees are desperate for rotation help and could certainly use another arm that's capable of eating innings. He owns a 5.61 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 100/49 K/BB ratio over 110 2/3 innings on the year.

i'll suck you off, Cashman. Please.

Yankees

Jackson/Villenueva/Slot money/ Cubs pay half of Jacksons deal

Cubs

In season payroll savings from payroll shed and not spending the full IFA allotment. Saving 50 percent of Jacksons deal the next two season. a prospect equivalent to Corey Black last August. The Cubs also open more audition time for the kids and the battle for the number draft pick. Make it happen Theo and .

How are they possibly that desperate for pitching. Surely there are better options than Jackson.

The Yankees(and Dodgers) are scavengers. They often trade for higher priced guys just to keep from giving up prospects, by offering some financial help.

So long as it's consensual.

He's getting like $11 mil a season, we're sitting around $50 mil at the moment I believe, So we'd be around $40 mil if we ditched Jackson's salary all together. If we took half then we'd be near $45 million. Either way, with or without him, we've got a [expletive] load of money to play with

Sounds about right. Per BP, we're currently at, what, $93MM. Soriano ($13MM), Shark ($6MM), Hammel ($6MM), Villanueva ($5MM) and Schierholtz ($5MM,) Veres (3.8,) and Bonifacio (2.5) are all coming off the books. Barney currently makes 2.5, and if he's not traded, he's a likely non tender. James McDonald and George Kottaras are still getting a mil each. Fujikawa would make 5.5, but has a 500K buyout.

Arrieta's the only guy I see getting any significant raise, and Coghlan, Ruggiano, Valbuena, and Strop are all arb. eligible and could each be due a slight one.

Milone requested a trade according to MLBTR. It might be interesting to trade Valbuena + ??????? for Milone and Pomeranz to give us some possible depth to our future rotation.

Milone isn't that good, not interested. Pomeranz I'm intrigued by because of the pedigree, but Milone is garbage. 4.43 FIP and 4.51 xFIP with a grotesque 5.7 K/9. Don't know that I'd give up Valbuena+ for him. Pomeranz I could see the appeal, like I said, but not Milone.

I am not sure that it's necessary for this team to have a stop gap at this point. Valbuena has played well, but we are heading for the worst record in baseball why does it matter if we are better at 3b right now. Put Olt there, put bonifacio there, heck play "automatic out" but if we get anything of value for anyone (not in the plans) on the roster go for it.
