At least Soler has proven to be a beast when he plays...I think the upside is high enough where you could go either way.

I'm definitely not convinced Edwards will start, but a good reliever is better than what Almora is now. I'll at least give him that until we hear worse things about his shoulder. I'm not really convinced Alcantara will be a starter either, but he's more versatile with a lot more power and speed. Soler and Schwarber are easily ahead of him, for me at least.

Not even hitting .250 in high-A at this point in the season for someone who depends completely on batting avg is frightening to me. Moreso than a couple of hamstring injuries (Soler) and some contact issues while still putting up an .800+ OPS in AAA (Alcantara). Edwards is pretty close, I'll give you that.

Don't know how you can have Edwards or Soler above him.

Soler? I'd easily put him above him, injury issues be damned.

And I'm not incredibly worried about Almora's start. Compared to what it looks like on this page, I'm pretty high on him. He's very very young for that league.

Soler is definitely ahead of Almora. So is Alcantara. I'm not quite where sneaky is on Soler but I'm guessing I'm closer to him than consensus on Soler, I'd guess.

I wish Johnson, Edwards and Tseng were healthier because that'd make it easier to rate them ahead of Almora like I want to.

ETA: When he signs, Schwarber will go in at 4 between Soler an Alcantara for me.

Yeah Soler over Almora is a no brainer to me. He's closer to Baez at #2 to me than he is to Almora wherever.

Soler at Daytona (age 21): 55G 236PA .281/.343/.467 22XHB 21/38 BB/K

Almora at Daytona (age 20): 56G 538PA .253/.273/.333 15XHB 6/30 BB/K

gotta appreciate almora's ability to get 10PA per game, tho

Yes. He has incredible command, good present stuff that projects to be even better and is having success as a 19-year old in the MWL in his first season in a foreign country. I see a #2 pitcher ceiling, which would match CJ Edwards' best case scenario ceiling.

of the major pundits, i respect law's opinions (fully expect the response that's coming) and, as such, it disappointed me when he peed in our cheerios his report on tseng was basically the opposite of the optimistic ones that popped up earlier this season.

Law, at most, probably saw him pitch once. And he will now forever hang his hat on that opinion. I get judging a guy based on both his numbers and your first-hand observations. But that can't be the case with 19 year-old Tseng.

Even above Baez and Bryant?

I do agree many are sleeping on Soler. I could see him becoming a hell of a player some day. Im dreaming we hit on Soler, Bryant, and Baez to build around an offensive core of Castro, Bryant, Rizzo, Baez, and Soler batting 2 through 6.

To have bats like that in the infield and on homegrown contracts could be a massive advantage. Ideally in my dream we would break the bank on a star outfielder as well for the savings PTR would be getting in the infield.

Law saw him on a bad ST start, one appearance after Badler and multiple BP guys saw him kill it. I'm not crazy about one game scouting reports, positive or negative. Especially ST ones. Thankfully multiple BP guys have seen him multiple times since (thank you for moving the MWL affiliate to Kane County, Cubs) and have come away with positive reports each time.

you guys seem weirdly high on soler, but ok. guess I'm on the island with him.

He is the Cuban Stud we are owed and his body is going through its secondary mutations right now. Almora is just King Wuss of Wuss Island.
