with all these HRs and other hits and walks lately, his k rate has to have come down a LITTLE, right?

I see him at 26% on the season now. He's been walking more than he's been striking out on his hot streak though.

April: 28% K%, 14% BB%

May: 25% K%, 14% BB%

Last 2 weeks: 21% K%, 21% BB%

Bring Bryant up now, Soler when healthy.

Can we just offer him a contract and throw him over at 3B please?

Has a Boras client ever signed one of those early, pre-arb extensions?

Baez 3-for-16 with no XBH, no BB, 7 Ks since May 27. That hot streak didn't last long as I would have liked.

Stupid monsoon in Memphis screwed him up.

Before that hot streak, I might have considered a stretch like that a hint at a sign of life.

Thank you, Kyle. I suspect he'll now hit a homer next time up.

He made an out and is now out of the game. Anybody listening on the radio?

Not sure of the details but he walked off with a trainer. Was hit in the hand/wrist earlier in the game but stayed in a few innings after that.

Assuming it's nothing serious an injury that makes him miss 1-2 weeks wouldn't be the worst thing for him in the world right now, imo.

Oh, good lord. Not the wrist. Please not the wrist.

He did stay in the game after getting hit, stole two bases and batted one more time before being pulled. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

The Des Moines Register's I-Cubs beat dude doesn't travel with the team so I'm guessing news is going to trickle out slowly.

MiLB.com doesn't have much more: http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140601&content_id=77823926&fext=.jsp&vkey=recap&sid=t451&tcid=tw_article_77823926

Baez left this game in the bottom of the sixth inning. He was hit by a pitch on the right hand/wrist/forearm area in the third inning. He stayed in the game and stole both second and third base in the inning. Both times he slid head first into the bag ahead of the tag. He committed a throwing error trying to turn a double play in the fifth inning that led to the Sounds' lone run against Jokisch. After getting called out on strikes for the first out in the top of the sixth inning, he didn't return to the game on defense in the bottom of the frame.

Justin Amlung dominated tonight, 5.2 IP 4 H (all singles) 0 R 0 BB 8 K. 8-1 GO-FO.

On the season:

46.2 IP 1.54 ERA 34 H 7 BB 40 K 4 HR

Last 4 games:

21 IP 0.43 ERA 11 H 1 BB 20 K 0 HR

I didn't go back to check, but from what I recall he hasn't been giving up much hard contact. His first start, right before that 4 game stretch, he gave up 2 HRs in 6 IP, but other than that he's done a great job of limiting damage, as evidenced by the 1.54 ERA. And the walk rate looks pretty good. The GO/FO for the season is only 1.35, so today's 8 ground outs was a good sign.
