People have been doing the wave at Wrigley for forever now, yet it continually is reacted to like it's something new and outrageous.

for the record, my response is based on the fact that the wave sucks because it sucks, not because it's being done at wrigley like it's some pristine cathedral of baseball

I've hated replay from day one. Two reasons, 1) the human element (and its shortcomings) are inherent to baseball 2) baseball is slow enough already

Inherent only because the other 3 major sports had already caught up to the 20th century.

Pretty sure that's Rizzo, Castro and Barney on the left. Can't tell who is on the right, though.

i thought that was them but what is that round patch on the jerseys? at first i thought santo patch, but rizzo wasn't around for that.

does kyle get to claim any credit for talking all offseason about the good bullpen or does that get wiped out since he jumped ship on that in spring training?

One, there were plenty that were excited about the pen. Two, not only did Kyle jump off, he was still bitching about it within the last week or so. Can't give him credit on this. And honestly, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he's still unhappy with it.

Other than Veras and Villanueva, it's been very solid and showing potential for much more.

Bullpen had 0.1 fWAR going into today, and 29th in net WPA.

What exactly is so great about them? We've got some streaky guys on hot streaks right now. It happens.

You don't look at Rondon, Ramirez, and Grimm as anything more than streaky? Grimm hasn't even been that good, but the stuff is certainly there.

Strop is streaky, but he's hurt anyway. Wright looks good. Schlitter or Parker should hold down a middle relief role decently. Rosscup looked capable.

Rivero and Vizcaino are coming soon.

Only the 3 vets look like they need to go.(Russell, Villanueva, Veras)

It doesn't surprise me you're nitpicking early WAR numbers, which isn't a good way to judge a pen as it is. But we have some serious arms in play and more to come. It's not hard at all to see this as a serious strength in the very near future. Maybe even now with a 7-8-9 of Grimm, Ramirez, and Rondon.

If you don't like net WPA, and you don't like WAR, what do you like?

The bullpen as comprised right this moment has some potential and probably isn't a total dumpster fire, and there's some nice arms coming up. I think it's been so long since Cubs fans have seen any part of their team be not terrible that they are confusing "not terrible" for "great."
