Yadier Molina on a 92-hopper through the middle is pretty much exactly how I would imagine STL beating us in a game. [expletive]. I wanted to stay out of last place longer.

A closer in a tie game didn't work out? This is new.

That's not why this happened.

Why are you so freaking good at saying dumb [expletive]?

So what situation did you want to save Rondon for? It's the 9th inning of a tied game, you are home team…when is the save situation going to happen?

So either you are saying we simply can't use him in this game because he's the closer or you have to use him in a non-save situation. He has been one of our best relievers, why wouldn't you use him then?

If you bring in someone else and he blows it, you'd be bitching because he didn't use Rondon.

Are you sure you replied to the right post?

I didn't want to use him because he's a young guy with a history of arm problems and this was the 3rd day in a row he pitched. I don't have a problem putting him in the game, I didn't want him to go for a 3rd day in a row, especially in a non-save situation.

I think it would have been nice maybe to not use him for the third day in a row. The Cubs have 8,000 relievers but similar to years past there are apparently only 2-3 guys who pitch every day and 2 more who never pitch.

Ditto on both of the above posts. If anything, that's why it happened (that or The New Class GIFs).

I still don't know why neely quoted my post though.

I think he was replying to the other guy and just jumping in at the end of the conversation. It was a pretty solid work for neely.

Rondon only threw 20 pitches the previous 2 days, so there's not a huge risk of over-use there. At the same time, he was likely used because he needed* to be throwing in the bottom of the 8th in case the Cubs scored, and since there's never going to be a save situation to save him for, you might as well let him throw since he started warming up on this the 3rd consecutive day. Once they failed to score in the 8th it's basically the start of an extra inning game strategy-wise, so I don't have a huge issue with having Rondon be the guy to lead things off. He's been their best reliever recently, there was alternative reason to have him throwing beforehand, and you also eliminate the risk that he's the guy left at the end of the pen in case of extreme circumstances. I probably would've had Strop or Ramirez throwing along with Wright just in case though, for as bad of luck as it was that Molina and Bourjos each had like 30 pitch at bats, it was similarly good luck that Wright was able to get Holliday without issue with two men on.

*Yes, someone else could've handled the save situation, although we're into shades of gray at this point. The other two top candidates(Strop and Ramirez) both threw yesterday as well.
